WEMP is now...

When I streamed New Rock on tunein app and even over the air they randomly have snippets of newscasts from fm news what's this about?

Sounds like more of the same lack of quality control, except with music.

Probably nobody checked or cleared out the old cut IDs in the automation system from FM News. It's possible that some of the IDs from the songs flown in on a hard drive from Chicago (I'm assuming that's how they did it) are the same as ones left over from FM News. Instead of a song, you get a newscast.

Again, even though it was a hasty decision, this is poor QC. Embarrassing in Market #1 or #150.

Is anyone left there to steer the ship???

This quote below from an anonymous staffer at WIQI Chicago explains the problems they had with audio clips and other facets of the operation - these mishaps plagued WEMP as well (as mentioned in the many previous posts about misplaced time checks; clipping of stories/bumpers/ads, etc.).

Apparently the Merlin Non-Magic continues unabated through the format change:

...A person wishing to remain anonymous heaped praise on his co-workers and said that they truly believed that they could make FM News a success in Chicago. The problems seemed to come from decisions forced upon them from the top of the company. One quote from this person says a lot: "(FM News 101.1 was) a radio experiment where we weren't sure what we were supposed to be doing, while we dealt with massive shifts in direction, an automation program built for music rather than news, and a news content system not built for automation."...

Any news on DJs and apparently something happening on Wednesday? I hope that they make mornings all music & keep all the same music. They even played Jack Johnson the other day and I requested it on the phone when I left them a message!

I've heard voicetracks all weekend.

I called their regular line though and someone answered. I txted them and I got a general response. I still think that it's 100% a legit format.

The speculation was, that WEMP was going to change call letters back to WRXP. For a short time, that was headline material on the homepage of this website. If this hasn't happened yet, will it really happen at all, or is someone just effin with us?

Paperwork, Brian, paperwork. Plus there's no real urgency involved...seems to be the usual Merlin machinations; take their time getting around to things while wandering aimlessly in search of share points... ;) :D

New Rock 101.9 is now using RDS to show the names of the songs and the artists.
That is very helpful for someone like myself who is only familiar with some of the alternative rock songs they have been playing.

The web address, myrxp.com now automatically links to the website for 101.9 New Rock.
Until a day or two ago, it was the online remnant of the original WRXP.
The address www.1019rxp.com also gets transferred to it.

Those were Emmis' webpages? Are they going to be actively involved with this station?

Emmis is, and has been, a partner in Merlin Media:

So, New Rock 101.9 is a temporary moniker and it becomes 101.9 RXP again?

Check out this post from July 19, 2012: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=215945.msg1941232#msg1941232

And this one from July 17, 2012: http://boards.radio-info.com/smf/index.php?topic=215882.msg1940205#msg1940205

Yes, WRXP is returning to 101.9FM tomorrow. I am very happy to hear Alternative Rock return to the New York City airwaves ;D The WEMP incarnation has been great and I know the WRXP incarnation will be even better music-wise than before.
