WEOA-FM in Evansville?

I saw a wall schedule for the EVansville Icemen today and it had a logo on it for Magic 98.5 with the WEOA call letters. Does 1400 have plans to sign on a translator? I can't find any other mention or evidence of it. I know there is 98.5 out of the Ferdinand/Jasper area that puts a pretty good signal into Evansville.

Yes. There is a CP for WEOA's W253BF: 250 watts from the top of WEOA's tower on Weinbach Ave.

Actually, the latest move is back to WFIE's old tower on Mt. Auburn Rd. ... I think ... that CP has been all over Vanderburgh County over the past year.

Looking at the documents on fcc.gov, Jake is right. WEOA filed in May to move from the WEOA tower to the old WFIE tower.

it'll be Magic alright if they can ever penetrate thru that behemoth Class A on stereoids from over in Dubois county. Also, I heard from a good source that the translator will be substantially lower than 250 watts. I wish them the best. Hope it works for them because 1180 with a watt comes in better than 1400 with 1kw yonder way here in outer, outer Newburgh.

The current CP calls for 110 watts.

Back to the original post where the wall schedule had a Magic 98.5 logo, I am confused here. Is the Pump moniker going away or is WEOA going to attempt to originate separate programming on a translator? Isn't that still taboo at the F.C.C.? Or did the rules change?

Also, was this one of those Edgewater ghost stations that never quite made to the actual construction phase, but the F.C.C. was told it was on the air and then after the license grant, they applied for an STA to remain silent? Did WEOA do the same thing? That is not build it out, but represented it was on and that it wasn't just to keep moving it around the chess board?

I've never seen an actual tower for the various licensed sites or ever heard the station on the air. Has anyone else?

The logo said Magic 98.5 and had the WEOA call letters. My quess is it will still be a simulcast of WEOA-AM but they will just identify the fm translator.

I've listened to 1400 and they haven't mentioned anything about 98.5. I just wonder how the signal is going to do with WKZQ booming in from Dubois county.

As of this moment there are no FM antennas on the WFIE Mt Auburn tower. It just has the STL Dish, a set of cell antennas and a stack of horizontal dipoles for two way service.

Somehow I'm not surprised. I wonder if there's been yet another change in plans? Heck, the IceMen start their preseason games Oct. 6 ... and they're certainly convinced that there will be an FM in operation by that time.

The Pump is at Fall Festival handing out Munchie Maps with the "Magic 98.5" logo. Still no FM bays on the Mt Auburn tower.

Also no FM bays on WEOA's Weinbach Ave tower.

Something is fishy.

I hate to say I'm getting a little suspicious here, but ... I'm getting a little suspicious here.

One of my readers noted this morning that, during last night's IceMen Live, Terry Ficorelli of the IceMen said that the station is testing at very low power. My source said he was able to pick it up.

The question now, then, is this: Where's it coming from?

Did you check at the top of your tv antenna? :)

I have a crystal clear WEOA translator on 98.5. Seems stronger than WSON's translator on 96.5, so it must be in Evansville instead of Henderson.

I have it here on the Westside. It's not a strong signal but it is on. The question is how good is the signal inside Ford Center?

Hehehe!

OK, so it's on ... now the thing is, figure out where it's broadcasting from.

By the way, WQKZ blocks it out completely here in Owensboro, which doesn't surprise me in the least.

according to their FCC filings here is the tropo map:

Here is the the FCC file:

Last time I heard anything about it, it was still supposed to go on the WFIE tower on Mount Auburn Road.

JDTVB reports this evening that the antenna was hung on Mt. Auburn today. So, the question remains: where was that signal coming from during fall festival?
