We're getting an Omnia ONE!

My station is getting a processor upgrade from an Optimod to the Omnia ONE. Would like to open up discussion about other users' experience with the ONE, what you think of the unit, and what kind of experiences you have had with the various out-of-the-box presets on the ONE. So, whaddya think?

Man,what a slap in the face to Orban.Going from a 8400 to an Omnia One FM??. THAT IS STRONG.But, we all know you have not been pleased with the 8400.I think you will like the ONE.Contact Mark at Omnia ,he will help you with the right preset.

I wouldn't call it a slap in the face as much as someone out there who prefers the Omnia sound. The 8400 is 8 year old tech now (even though you could probably flip an 8400 on Ebay and buy 2 new Omnia ONE's... that's what's funny about this).

I think he'll be happy with the ONE as long as he takes his time with the box, as you would have to with any box. It will pay off.

I know mine is loud and open and his 4 band design is very good (can't wait for the AM software).

I have nothing bad to say about Orban or the Optimod. They make some superior products and I am proud of our time using the 8400. One thing I have discovered about processing is that there are no "right" or "wrong" answers. The fact that I'm getting an Omnia ONE doesn't mean that I think Orban is the wrong answer in processing. It just means that Omnia is more in-line with my personal preferences.

Hope to hear some more Omnia ONE reviews!! Thanks folks!

WhitFM -

From reading your past posts it's clear that you put a lot of time and effort trying to get the sound you wanted out of the 8400. My suggestion to you would be to choose a preset closest to your format and then give Telos/Omnia tech support a call to help you fine tune and achieve the sound you are looking for. Telos/Omnia is very responsive to both phone calls and emails. Don't get discouraged if you don't get exactly the sound you're looking for with the stock presets, they are only starting points.

We've found that using the remote control web interface is the easiest way to manipulate settings in the Omnia One.

We have been thoroughly impressed with our Omnia One FM.

Group,

AM Software is slated for spring NAB release.

Thanks for all the support!

Frank,

Could you talk a little bit about the kind of response you've received thus far from the Omnia ONE, or maybe talk about some of the things your clients like most about the unit? It'll be in quickly, but I'm just so eager to get it that I'm trying to find out everything I can about it! Thanks!

Actually, you'd be better off having a look at past Omnia. One threads and comments on this list-serve, as made by end-users. They sum it up a lot better. Also, I don't feel it's proper to grandstand in this type of forum about our products. If customers wish to, that's different. Guess all I can say, is that we can't build and ship these units fast enough.

Now, if you'd like for me to carry on about steam locomotives, I'll gladly oblige. :)

I had the chance to play with the One and as I said in another topic I liked how it sounds. It has a distinctive sound that I like and if you couldn't get the sound you were looking for in the 8400 you probably find it in the One as it being a totally different type of box. I had some struggle getting used to the remote software, being a dspx-fm user I prefer there remote software with faders opposed to the knobs in the One. But this might be just me. ;)
I wouldn't swap my dspx-fm for one but rather have them both. One night I might feel for the One sound the other for de DSPX.

I have used Omnia's in many markets. They are the loudest best sounding boxes ever made. But be careful on the setup, and don't let the program director anywhere near it. Like all processors it can sound really good or really bad (depending on how good or bad your hearing is). There has only been one good Orban its the 8100A with an XT2 chassis, other than that they look freaky and sound bad (plus Bob Orban is way too arrogant, and not helpful at all, but Frank is). I have to give Frank and all the fine folks at Omnia credit, they made an electronic version of the LED level meter for the new Omnia's and they are giving credit and paying Mike Dorrough (Dorrough is of course the father of modern processing).

The best processors ever in chronological order are:

RCA BA-6A
Dorrough DAP 310 and 610
Orban 8100A
ALL OMNIA PRODUCTS!

This is not a paid endorsement! Just my experience!

The best and worst sounding stations I've ever heard were both running an Omnia 6. Have you made a backward step??? Wait and see ;)

Likewise, the best and worst sounding violin I've ever heard was the Stradivarius. The only difference was the person playing the instrument.

and I can say with 100% certainty, this was the case with those two stations!

Ok, I'm piling on, but we're buying a second Omnia 6. Couldn't imagine buying another box, pretty much says it all.

Group,

Please know with all sincerity, I'm humbled and flattered by comments like this...REALLY! :) But, seems these threads inquiring about 'this or that' processor eventually turn into the same debate. By all means, share your experiences, but let's not get into the Yankees vs Indians debate. Let's leave that one to baseball! :)

BTW: I'm a HUGE Cleveland Indians fan!! :)

The Mistake by the Lake, huh?

Many years ago, they made hotrod Fords. Now they're doing audio processors and phone systems and consoles. Times and tech change.

And all this time I thought it was Dreary Erie that was the mistake by the lake....

The ONE came today. Here's my first take:

- First impression is surprise. Really strange to see how such an advanced sound can come out of such a tiny box.
- Setup was very easy. Took maybe 5 minutes to get everything dialed in properly.
- The sound is great. Exactly the improvement I was looking for. To see how the AGC and Limiter sections interact with each other is very cool. It seems that the relationship of the AGC to the Limiters changes with every preset. Very interesting how they work together to keep things consistent. The Cosmic preset seems to be the best all-around for us. It gives music a strange 'airy' effect, which provides a very unique sound that nobody else has. No tweaks or adjustments needed thus far. Just a good box.

Thanks Frank!
