WERZ rumor

I believe they're already equal to 6000 watts from where they are now. This construction permit has been around for a couple years now, and it still hasn't happened. Maybe it never will at all, because it's not like they're building a new tower or anything, it'd just be going on the 1540 site that they already own. They probably don't want to give up the extra height.

Yes they are. They cancelled the initial permit applied for in 2002, and reapplied for it in 2006. They have until 02/16/2009 to build it out, or again reapply for a another new permit.

Both formats will compete for females, 12-34's & 25-54, more 18-34's-25-44

CC gets a radio station that can be sold with no additional talent expenses.
Though audience sharing will be high, like 50% or more.
CC owners are pissing their pants.

ERZ and Kiss are competing for the same listeners, and audience sharing will be high, like 50% or more, so how can this be good?

Are they putting up a new tower? I've been by there and noticed a single bay antenna on the 1540 tower. That thing can't be all that high.

Considering the station is held by a trust, they're probably not going to spend the kinda money it would take for a new 330 foot tower and I doubt the golf course would like another tower near them.

Is the 1540 tower painted and/or lighted? Then it's over 200 ft.

Does WGIP uses it's single digit night power?

Is my theory that 107.1 will return from Christmas music as a repeater for WJMN 94.5 not likely?
If WERZ is moving to the new tower, what will happen to the old tower? Will a new station begin broadcasting from the old tower at a different frequency?

THat comment makes no sense... what station is goign to use that tower? Just because you vacate a tower doesnt mean you can apply for a new frequency there whenever you wish.

Thank you RadioGuyBroadcasting,
You answered that part of my question exactly. I wanted to know if the tower could be reused. Does that mean the tower will be taken down?

Anotherr station COULD potentially locate their antennas on the WERZ tower, but it would be an already exsisting station and not a new license

You said it would be an exacting license, but it would have to be a new frequency, and that would make it a new station. Or, are you saying it would need to be an existing station moving to that tower

An EXSISTING STATION moving to the tower.. just an antenna move... geez.

Looking at the facilities at fcc.gov, that single bay antenna on the 1540 tower is their licensed, 3kw stand-by. The CP shows they are going to the 1540 site, but there is no way that 1540 stick is 328 feet. Even if it was - from where I saw it, it looks to be in pretty bad shape and probably couldn't hold the antenna load.

JUST BRING FALCONI BACK! EVERYTHING WILL BE RIGHT WITH THE WORLD AGAIN!
AND MAYBE WILL E B, ROB WALKER AND HELL LISA G FOR EROTIC PLEASURE

Just saw this and thought, "How cool would THAT be?" Top 40 fun the way it should be! Anyway, their transition is complete for WERZ/107.1. They slid into a more HotAC direction maybe a year ago and earlier this week, they officially began reporting as a Mainstream AC station to Mediabase. Interestingly though, their web site includes links to the new U2 CD. Guess Portsmouth's blue haired old ladies don't surf the web...

And I love the positioning: "80s, 90s & today" smack into a song from the 70's.

the afternoon guy Mon-Fri sounds good on the air - the rest is boooorrrring! sure do miss what it once back in the late 80's-early 90's!

My guess is it's a 70's song (or borderline 70's song, one that made it in the 80's) in an 80's category.....I'm guessing if you were PD you wouldn't play anything released before January 1, 1980

Sorry, but Take It Easy by the Eagles was no where near the 80s and I heard it on ERZ the other morning... along with other 70s tunes that don't come anywhere near Jan 1, 1980. You fail.

Actually, the Eagles', "Take It Easy," was released in '72, so if you're a perfectionist - it clashes with their positioning statement, but if you're an average listener, you're none the wiser. The lines between AC and Hot AC are blurred, just as they are between CHR/Top 40 and Hot AC. I think an innovative programmer should throw in a nugget like that if it fits sonically. A listener who was in high school and hearing, "Take It Easy," for the first time back then is about 50 now and that sure fits an AC demo. BTW, ERZ's Top 10 this week matches the National MediaBase AC chart almost song for song. They're playing a Sara Barellies and a James Taylor song that's not on the AC Top 10 and not playing a Gavin Rossdale song and a Missy Higgins song that IS in Mediabase's Top 10 so they're pretty close on currents. As an aside, I had a chance to talk with a couple of former "ERZers" from the "Falcon Era" last night at Boston's House of Blues opening and they were lamenting a great time in radio too...

Huh? Top 40 and Hot AC are quite distinct these days. Many songs that charted in the Top 5 at Hot AC didn't even make the top 20 in Top 40. "Shattered" and "Love Remains The Same" are great examples.

Will, you crazy transplanted Vermonter... You're absolutely correct - if you're looking at charts from, say, 5 years ago. This morning's chart, courtesy of MediaBase (BDS closely mirrors the same numbers, tho):

FRAY "You Found Me" # 1 Hot AC, # 9 T40
NICKELBACK "Gotta Be Somebody" # 2 Hot AC, # 25 T40
TAYLOR SWIFT "Love Story" #3 Hot AC, # 2 T40
KATY PERRY "Hot n Cold" # 4 Hot AC, #21 T40
DAVID COOK "Light On" # 5 Hot AC #29 T40
JASON MRAZ "I'm Yours" # 6 Hot AC, # 20 T40
KELLY CLARKSON "My Life..." # 7 Hot AC, # 8 T40
OAR "Shattered" # 8 Hot AC, Never worked at T40
PINK "Sober" # 9 Hot AC, # 5 Top 40
DAUGHTRY "What About Now" # 10 Hot AC, not charted T40

Doesn't look "quite distinct" to me...

If you ask JayBeau at BMX what he looks at when it comes to adding a song, 75 percent of the time he'll want to know:
1. What's its national chart position? (not really a factor if it's not in the Top 20)
2. Is Kiss (T40/CHR) on it?

Will, so I won't be totally accused of hijacking the WERZ thread, when Pete Falconi and Jack O'Brien drive the ERZ ship, they borrowed from other formats as well. Mostly rock leaning songs that ultimately crossed over to T40 (they were ahead of the curve many times) as well as some of the dancier songs (they actually played Sonny Joe White's, "Jackie Lucky."

Maybe I'm just used to the late 90's trend of CHR and Hot AC being virtually the same.

I monitored WERZ when I worked for Mediabase. They were quite adult in the mid 2000's, and justifiably so...Kiss 108 comes in just fine up on the North Shore.

As for Jay Beau picking songs, it's not often that I'll trash Mix, which is tight with the tunes, but he needs to know that it's no longer 1982 and that he doesn't need to insult his audience by removing the black people vocals from songs. I can see the argument for keeping Lil' Wayne off Mix by editing "Let It Rock", but there was no reason to remove Colby O'Donis from "Just Dance."
