rumor has it that WERZ is going all Holiday music soon - could it be they're blowing it up to simulcast KISS 108?? Leave it to clear channel to cut more jobs!!

It wouldn't be the first time a 'seacoast' radio station has stunted with Christmas music and then came back with a new format.
This has been mentioned in the past on previous threads: Back about 1996 or '97 or so, WZEA/Seacoast 102 went all Christmas and came back as the ill-fated The Stage.

I remember that - if this is the case - it's a shame! ERZ has a heritage in the seacoast. I remember when it gave the bigger guys a run for it's money, ratings, etc...
could it be they're blowing it up to simulcast KISS 108??
Then what do they do with the KISS 108 simulcast they already have on 95.3?

mmmmm...sell it? they have to dump the 930 am frequency - so bundle the 2? 95.3 has been 3 different formats over the last 12 years (maybe more - not sure). what's a format that isn't happening in the seacoast?

Yes, back in the '80's it was a pretty good station. I think the beginning of the end was when WZOU came on to the scene.

What's wrong with WERZ? I always thought their format worked for Portsmouth. What makes everyone think just because they are playing holiday music they are going to switch formats?

They wouldn't go to that extreme for no reason during a ratings period - they typically put their Holiday music on their 96.7 The Wave frequency (where it never did increase ratings) - so why jeopardize ERZ? I really think they're going to put KISS 108 on it. 95.3 is doing well with KISS on it - so why not make KISS stronger in the market and at the same time, save $$ by cutting more personalities (unfortunately)!

I don't see that happening. WERZ's signal is pretty overlapped by Kiss 108's, not to mention 95.3. I doubt there will be any changes.
96.7 The Wave (another CC station) has been flipping to all Xmas for the past few years. I'd assume they'd flip again.

There will be some changes...but not with the format. I hear that WERZ is going make changes to their morning show. Probably by the first of the year.

Just checked werz.com and streamed the station and started hearing You're A Mean One Mr. Grinch and then Sleigh Ride. Then a promo announced that 107.1 WERZ is The Seacoast's Christmas Station. So does this mean the Ralphie and Susan morning show is gone?
Update: I clicked on a section on werz.com and found this: http://www.mediabase.com/whatsong/whatsong.asp?var_s=087069082090045070077. It shows what songs have been played on WERZ. So it looks like the Christmas music started today Friday November 14th, 2008 at 3:03pm.

I heard a promo for the morning show today and the website has Ralphie video blogs all over it. I haven't seen the numbers but CC seems very invested in the show...why blow it up? I don't think for a one minute CC will blow up ERZ's format....To much history to flush....

cc can do anything they want to do - and do you really believe because erz has history that matters to them (cc)? WRONG! just look at radio stations across the country and what cc has done to show superstars - gone! gone! gone - just to save a buck! they have done no justice to the NH cc owned stations. instead they have everyone doing voicetracking on different stations - if you listen to any of the cc stations, it's getting so you don't even know what station you're listening to anymore because of all the personality crossovers.
let's hope for the sake of the people that work there that the holiday music is because they're working on a strategy as to how to make the station better come the day after Christmas and nothing less -
and yes - Ralphie and Suzanne are still on...for now

When did CC downsize you? You sound alittle bitter...listen to any cluster of stations in the US, CC & Non CC and you will hear cross over djs.

That's SOP at most clusters nowadays, especially in smaller markets. It's hardly limited to CC.
