After hearing the holiday music yesterday morning, and knowing that it had been playing since Friday, I suspected that something was in the works with WERZ.
I am not at all surprised to read that they may be making changes to their format. Lets face it, the current one is wee bit stale. I have been listening to the station since the '80s when I was in high school and by and large, little has changed. Well, aside from the fact that they now play the same shove it down your ear canals pop song once per hour as opposed to once every three hours!
I caught Ralphie and Suzanne for a bit this morning -- and man do they sound as if their po'ed, bitter, and just going through the motions. Almost condescending-teen-smart-a** like. It would almost be worth monitoring the station to see if they break out in a frustrated-rage induced rant against Clear Channel

The only thing keeping them from doing so is their contract.
Personally, I found myself unable to listen to Ralphie and Suzanne in the morning for more than 5 minutes. I honestly do not know what Clear Channel was thinking when they choose to bring in two personalities with New York-Jersey Shore accents and the intellect to go with it. Both of them have always given me the impression that, in their minds, coming to NH was the worst demotion they could possibly endure. The fact is that morning show listeners want to feel as if the on air personalities are "one of them" and clearly, one of "us" they were not. Never mind that they have ZERO on air chemistry. Shoot, the best part of their show to date was "Chuckles The Intern". That's a pretty sad reflection upon them when a 20 year old kid is the star of the show.
In any case, I suspect that we may begin to hear a simulcast of Greg and the Morning Buzz on the 107.1 frequency. If in fact CC is dropping WGIR (only AM or FM too?) then they may be looking to replace the 101.1 simulcast. Granted, it would be 100% market area overlap, but it's not as if the WHEB/WGIR market area differ all that much either.
I do hope that we begin to hear something a little more edgy. Not the rock-classic format of WHEB, or the dull pop of KISS 108, or the street hip hop of JAMN 94.5. Just something worth listening to. But, I guess that's a matter of taste.
