WEUS, For Example

Had a chance to listen this morning to WEUS, "The Big 810" between appointments this morning. If you are expecting something negative from me, I won't disappoint you. However, I am only using them as an example. What I'm saying can be applied to many but if you are with WEUS and a decision maker, then maybe you can make use of this.

Two words..."QUALITY CONTROL". No matter how bad things are in the business climate, there are things which can be done to improve sound and execution. I was listening during what I thought was a live, local, call-in talkshow. If this was LIVE and LOCAL...why not say that repeatedly, guys? The host was somebody calling himself a "loose cannon". He was doing the typical Rush Limbaugh wanna be "blame Obama for everything approach" but never once heard a call-in number! Not once! There was some "over enunciating" girl, who sounded like she might have been on a break from ninth grade doing the news. I thought I heard the same recorded traffic report more than once. Now this might be a bit technical for some of you who went to college to get into broadcasting...microphones are connected to some type of mixer. The mixer contains level controls. The idea is to have the audio from the various sources match each other in "loudness". One time the girl was much lower than this so-called loose cannon. The next time she was perfect and then another time, way low.

You can improve your product, 810. Why not at least try???

Because that would cost money, and they don't care. They run barter and pay for play programing on that station. A waste of 10,000 watts. They probably don't give the phone numbers out because there's no one listening who would care to call. It's kind'a embarrasing to the three listeners that they have to give the phone number out and no one calls up. I used to work at an oldies station once upon a time that ran on flea power at night. I (or anyone else on at night for that matter) would open up the request lines, and no one would call. But that's another story ;D

The failure of 1190 proved there's no room for a fourth conservative talker. Better the "Big 810" should sound as bad as possible and drive people away. All 810 does is interfere with signals people might actually want to hear, such as 810 in the Bahamas.

I for one don't want to hear the Bahamas.

Anyone know how much The Loose Cannon is paying WEUS to have a "talk show"? How much for the weeknight thing The People's Power Hour and how about the one shot weekend live shows?

Yeah and don't forget the Doug Gutslow show. Thought he was gone from the Orlando airwaves. Wonder if the Sentinel is still investigating him?

Actually, Ray Jr's show is done from his home studio and piped in to the station. No doubt it certainly sounds amateurish, though, and shouldn't be the morning drive image for your station..... Also, from what I understand, same with the 5pm Pazutti show; done from their own studio and piped in.
