WFAA/8 honors the late Marty Haag with plaque

Haag was a news director and executive with WFAA/8 from the 1970s into the 1990s. His widow, Susan, and his sons, Matthew and Andrew, were all 3 on hand for the ceremony held on Monday.

And a well-deserved tribute. Marty Haag was responsible for Ch. 8's being named one of the two best local news operations in the country by the Columbia Journalism Review in the late '70s (WCCO Minneapolis was the other); the front four of Tracy Rowlett, Iola Johnson, Troy Dungan, and Verne Lundquist were about as good as local news gets.

I never met Mr. Haag, but I did get to meet his bosses, Mike Shapiro and Dave Lane (both of whom have also passed on), when I lived in Dallas. Both were class acts and I think it showed on the station.

Well-deserved tribute. I also think this is the old guard at Belo making sure that when Gannett takes over people don't forget who built that station into a powerhouse.
