WFBC flip coming?

I have to admit, this is a pretty sloppy promotion. I can see announcing it on a Friday, Thursday, or even Wednesday and let it go over the weekend, but the entire week before? At this point it’s not even interesting to the audience anymore. A lot of people are thinking it’s going away or moving online only based on the comments. Is this really a good idea? If you’re going to tease something, do it for a weekend. If you’re going to flip, just flip. If this is to draw attention to the station, I think it’s fatiguing to drag it out 10+ days.
 
They have now suggested hints for Magic, Earth, and The Block. Wonder what it will really turn out to be? Something altogether different? I would think AC or variety hits would be the best fit for Hawk and Tom, but who knows what they have planned.

Would putting The Block on a full power signal be of benefit? They seem to perform decently despite being a translator. And not an ideal home for Hawk and Tom there. Perhaps they are moving The Block to 93.7, and returning the Magic format to 96.3, 104.5, and 107.7. And moving Hawk and Tom there. And the suspense continues . . .
 
Meanwhile I mainly listen to Mix 107.9 from Charlotte which comes in fine in Spartanburg. Although it is coming in better now in Greenville County since that LPFM seems to be off the air since July. Less interference except when tropo pushes in Hot 107.9 from Atlanta.

And hopefully the upcoming changes at 93.7 will restore the void for AC in the Upstate since the reduction of Magic. I say reduction rather than demise since they have left it barely hanging on with a translator and an internet stream. Which leads me to believe they kept it alive until they could figure out a more permanent plan since the sale of 106.3. The original move to 98.9 probably remains permanent.

I don't think anything is moving or we would see an advance announcement and promotion like we saw with WORD and Magic (well, promotion, barely). If Audacy were to do any significant change, I can't see it being anything other than a variation of AC because it's a massive hole in the market. 102.5 already has adult hits and is running away with it in the ratings.

Probably going to be something corny like turning in to Boo 93.7 for October, sponsored by MadWorld. 🤣
 
The teaser liners have been updated. They’re now hinting at the end, “change… can be Magical….” Instead of just “change is coming…”
 
Audacy doesn’t update their local websites anymore, really, it seems. The “Magic 106.3” website is still up complete with the DJ’s that used to be there.

Considering the only hint they’ve dropped online that’s made it on air has been “change can be Magical”, I don’t know what to think. Maybe it’s my initial prediction that it’s a Magic re-launch tied in with Hawk and Tom on 93.7 after all. When Audacy had to sell 106.3, Magic went out with a 3 share and some change on a C3. I can only imagine adding Hawk and Tom who fit the demo and a class C signal would do quite well. I guess we’ll find out Monday.

BTW, I listened to B93.7 for a while today and what a comatose sounding CHR. Boring imaging, bare bones, tons of cold segues, no DJ’s (that I heard at least) and no energy compared to Hot 98.1.
 
Maybe "B93.7" to play only all "B" Named Artists? 🤷‍♂️😅Yeah right..but Maybe like many years ago,When 106.3 debuted as Charlie FM, There was a Name Change for each Random format in rotation...

Agree, this is just strange. If it’s some kind of Magic relaunch, they already have a domain registered that could be used. I also checked some other branding Audacy has used and can’t find anything. However they’ve been on a roll bringing back heritage brands across the country. Also odd they’re running jockless this weekend it seems.

Well the speculation has been they are looking to restore the Magic format and brand to a strong signal, since it was bumped from 98.9 and now 106.3. I think they historically had decent ratings for Magic and an AC format is needed to fill the void since the loss of Magic and Earth. But then they have also teased at The Block maybe moving. But, as you suggest, it could be something altogether different they have planned. We shall soon see.

Flipping the script could mean listeners not only choose what plays next, but are used to intro songs, give shout-outs, etc. No format change, just a change in presentation.There is a new format from Audio1 called 'Shuffle' that is this type of format:

I’m at a total loss then. Changes to Hawk and Tom? New show in some daypart, Hawk and Tom move to PM drive? Guess we’ll find out shortly…

Well, if it's "Life on EARTH" being the clue, maybe someone is hitching a ride on SpaceX....

Or Blue Origin. I think it's $250k for a trip to the edge of Space.

Maybe the format hole and possible solutions (or lack thereof) are mostly just a BIG void in the market, that's been mostly ignored & steadily growing, since losing 🌎FM, and even more with the Legacy Magic, until ... Well ...Just a few more hours and we'll see what it is and 🤷‍♂️ if it was worth all the hype, if it was (or wasn't) a smart move, or a BIG waste of time. Perhaps WYRD and EMF aren't a liability, but the demand and remembering for the former stations exceed the current selection changes im sure.... But thats another topic thats been discussed already... 🐝 🐝
