WFBC flip coming?

Well, that was disappointing. 🙄
Sort of a very boring "announcement." The promos and trades were longer.

And especially dead air at 7:02 briefly. Push the damn correct button whomever was operating the board.

They flipped to Christmas and Magic? Yawn. I guess Hawk and Tom are out of work for at least the duration? It's been 10 minutes and they haven't said anything.

I guess, without Magic, Audacy needed to do all Christmas so no other station in the market would take that position.

I was about to post as well…what a mess this morning!!!

Here I was thinking 93.7 was just going to become the permanent Christmas station lol.

Well, it looks like a format change, at least temporarily.

And THAT was in the works for a YEAR? No wonder why terrestrial radio is in the dumpster.

I'm not suggesting. I'm telling you it's not a format change.

Nothing of that nature.

All I'll say is this is something that has been in the works since last year.
Apologies to Lance. Not a format change. Not a contest like I thought. But THIS was in the works for a YEAR. Wow. Sad.

New afternoon show? Well, at least it'll be local.

All that hype that might have turned off listeners (except for us radio geeks)?

Dex & Barbie T hosted mornings at Hot 98.1 from 2017 until January 2023 where they were regularly beating WFBC. They are VERY well known quantities in the market. Despite being based in Jacksonville now, they both have families in Greenville and are regularly traveling back. WFBC wisely has been trying to get them to syndicate back to Greenville in this manner for nearly a year working through logistics with WAPE to ensure their Jacksonville show doesn't suffer.

While I’m glad to see they have a homecoming of sorts (Summit was foolish to let them go)
It still doesn’t excuse a piss poor promotion like they did this morning.

They couldn’t have just done a normal announcement lol?

Running a promo all weekend explaining it all weekend might have been much more effective and exciting for the audience. Listening to the station, I didn't really understand what was happening. Everyone was talking over each other and I had no idea who was who "you're doing afternoons." Reading the post on this page about it finally explained it to me. Sadly, I bet not too many of their listeners got to read that post and switched to Hot 98.1 or Spotify; tuning out 93.7. Maybe WFBC will only lose a few weeks of diary mentions until the audience discovers the station didn't become a Christmas station... or The Block.

Well that was a dud, and I was definitely wrong. Nice to see Dex and Barbie T back, but I agree this was executed horribly. They should have made the announcement and been done with it. They must really need a ratings bump.

Personally, I would have put them in AM drive and moved the exhausted Hawk and Tom out to PM drive. Does Hot 98.1 react to this at all, I wonder?

I hate they play so much hip hop, but 98.1 is far superior to 93.7 in presentation IMO.

Unpopular opinion:

I, personally, thought it was executed very well. It got people talking, asking questions, and engaged. The local media grabbed the story. The problem with terrestrial (or all) radio is, no one does anything to get people talking anymore (aside from that show in Australia). It's mostly syndication. Nothing to make people excited or get attention. This managed to get everyone talking, which I'm no genius, but I'm imagining that was the goal.

I'm just a casual radio listener and an ex-radio employee, but seeing these comments makes me chuckle. They went through 4 completely different format changes, then introduced a local afternoon show. You guys hated everything in real-time. Every bit of it. It makes me wonder if there was actually an outcome you would have liked. I actually enjoyed it.

I'm 100% sure this will kick up some dust at WHZT, but they're mostly syndicated now. Not much they can do, I'm guessing

One thing I'm more aware of, the audience loves Hawk and Tom. Following their social media this week, it was like their "save Ferris" moment!

Wondering if there are any women 25-54 on here that would chime in. I'm curious to hear from someone in their demo.

Only people on here are radio folks. I'd like to see if there is REALLY any buzz about this from anyone other than radio or former radio folks. Were people in their offices this morning talking about it? Will those restaurant and fast food workers talk to their colleagues when they get in and say, "did you here what happened this morning?" I'm not thinking it really resonated with the locals. But I don't listen to the radio at all anymore.

I’d be curious to know if these stunts still create much buzz. There’s been some reaction to them adding Dex & Barbie T, but there wasn’t much excitement leading up to all of the teasing on their social media pages other than people worried it was being sold or Hawk and Tom were going away.

Also, the national Audacy CHR voicetracker Julia is gone, and Bru has been moved to 10pm-2am. They’re definitely going in another direction than most of Audacy’s other CHR’s. This is after they added more local content on 98.9 and The Fan too. Audacy Greenville seems to be bucking the national trend somehow.
