WFBC flip coming?

I, personally, thought it was executed very well. It got people talking, asking questions, and engaged. The local media grabbed the story. The problem with terrestrial (or all) radio is, no one does anything to get people talking anymore (aside from that show in Australia). It's mostly syndication. Nothing to make people excited or get attention. This managed to get everyone talking, which I'm no genius, but I'm imagining that was the goal.

I'm just a casual radio listener and an ex-radio employee, but seeing these comments makes me chuckle. They went through 4 completely different format changes, then introduced a local afternoon show. You guys hated everything in real-time. Every bit of it. It makes me wonder if there was actually an outcome you would have liked. I actually enjoyed it.

I'm 100% sure this will kick up some dust at WHZT, but they're mostly syndicated now. Not much they can do, I'm guessing

One thing I'm more aware of, the audience loves Hawk and Tom. Following their social media this week, it was like their "save Ferris" moment!

Wondering if there are any women 25-54 on here that would chime in. I'm curious to hear from someone in their demo.

Well I do agree it definitely got all us talking, and like I said it definitely is good to have Dex and Barbie T back on the radio as I always liked their morning show compared to the washed up carcass that is Hawk and Tom’s morning show. I

Infact this would have worked better IF they we’re replacing Hawk & Tom IMHO.

That said, we’ll just to see in a few months if this delivers any results. Even when they were on WHZT the station had its ups and downs as did WFBC.

The fake format changes might have been funny 20 years again, but here in 2024 it just came off as pretty lame, maybe worth a chuckle or two. 🤣

Not a format change, Dex and Barbie take over morning show, and Hawk and Tom move to afternoons. Not a major flip, but some new adjustments to revitalize their CHR brand. Hopefully some good improvements.

But I still think they should restore the Magic format and brand to a stronger signal. Perhaps time to make a change at 93.3 maybe?

Blows my mind this market doesn’t have an adult pop (AC/Hot AC) station, especially an AC. How many others don’t? Very few.

The Planet has chugged along at a low 3 share or high 2 share for ages. My uneducated guess is similarly to sports stations, it bills well due to the ability to reach males 25-54.
 
That was a Fun Surprise ... Was Nice to Have a Cool "Magic" Trick This Morning - Return Once Again, Only Just to Depart a Few Minutes Later (as well as 🌎FM) - Definitely Left Some of us Scratching our Heads ...

Well .. IF Radio (and Life) Could Always be this Fun & Interesting - We Would Never Run Outta Cool Stories to Tell ... Well that means They don't Mind Keeping the Magic Brand Around, (and Showing 🌎FM some Respect) So Maybe Someday there'll be a Real Flip and Something More Useful (and Permanent) Will Be Here Soon. (Maybe with the Block & Magic Translators Frequencies) or as discussed, Maybe after Labor day on Flipping WYRD - But kinda Doubtful ... 😬🤔🤐😅
 
The last station Audacy owns in this market they're going to flip is 98.9. There are things to talk about after elections as we've always seen. Maybe someday when the audience starts to die out or can no longer be monetized, but not in the foreseeable future.
 
The Classic Throwback (Block) Format is already a thing on 94.7 in Northern NJ / New York on WXBK. I Like that station better than the Upstate SC example. Maybe Someday Audacy will have 96.3/104.5/107.7's Block Clock Pendulum 🕙 Start to Swing in that Direction too. (No Pun Intended - It is technically a sister station - Just in a different Market). 😅🤷‍♂️

Nah actually when I was looking back at social media reaction today it was actually bare minimum beside one single B93.7 post that garnered 300 reactions about Hawk and Tom staying out.

Apparently Lance was in on this lol per Dex’s response

The only thing I wonder is how long Dex and Barbie T will commit to doing a Jacksonville show in the AM and then doing a PM show for Upstate SC. Doing that split shift can go both ways for a lot radio folks. I’ve seen folks do fine with it for years like traffic reporters without breaking a sweat but when it comes to an actual talk show it really comes down to the energy and current circumstances of the hosts

My guess would be the AM drive show from Jacksonville will be heavily recycled for WFBC with maybe some custom/local segments recorded after the fact. I highly doubt they'll be in a studio doing a live show from 3pm-7pm.

Hot 98.1, in the last monthly, was 2 points ahead of WFBC 12+ using a completely canned/syndicated morning show, and their signal is quite subpar compared to WFBC. I know they go back and forth, and Hot had been a bit down lately, but I'll honestly be surprised if this moves the needle much either way. Hot sounds so much more energetic and lively than B93.7 which honestly just sounds and feels tired and boring for a CHR.

Literally no one looks at 12+
(That’s why Nielsen gives it away for free)

12+ in a diary market can be easily manipulated by a 77 year old couple listening 24/7 for the entire week. In the demos that matter, WFBC is generally ahead of WHZT except at night. WSSL has been the big winner for the past several months as country music is the flavor of the month currently.

That’s Audacy Greenville’s engineering for you. WFBC’s RDS hasn’t displayed the artist and title in months, WROQ sounds horrible and the HD is missing the station name/calls, clipping on 98.9 is awful. The Fan’s RDS is broken on 97.7. I could go on.

WTPT’s RDS just says “PLANET ROCKS”.
 
Maybe it’s me but I’ve tried to listening a few times now and having them on in the afternoons just isn’t vibing. The high energy from their Hot 98.1 days is diminished with slower songs clogging up afternoons. Yikes. Dex sounding tired himself didn’t help either.

Maybe they are tired because they already do a morning show in the Jacksonville station. By afternoon, they are done 🙂

(Actually, do we know they are live on 93.7? Or are they playing tapes segments?)

Tape segments, which is probably why it sounds disjointed as well.
 
I've done voicetracks after pouring out all my creativity into a live show. Tracks always suffer, no matter how much they pay you.
