OK, it's bad enough that WFLA-970 AM has effectively slashed the number of its local newscasts in half now -- good luck finding local radio news between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m. weekdays, with an even larger blackout window on weekends -- but what's up with Don Richards these days? I haven't heard him on air in about three weeks. Anyone got the scoop? Why do I suspect yet another local radio veteran has been given a "ClearChannel holiday bonus"?
And, as an aside, how much worse can this once-proud station get? When 9 o'clock rolls around and "A.M. Tampa Bay" wraps up for the day, I flip on XM until the next morning. There's nothing on 'FLA anymore that I can't get somewhere else.
Thank God for satellite radio -- which ain't local, but at least it doesn't leave me depressed when I think about how good over-the-air radio used to be around here. It amazes me that 'FLA still ranks so highly in each book.
