WFLZ-WMTX-WFUS Moving Antennas?

I know in the Port Charlotte area the mentioned FM's will be able to come in a bit stronger, albeit just a tad. Before reception in the Port Charlotte/Charlotte Harbor area was on the borderline to coming in as a weak "stereo" signal and moving the antennas just a tad to the south will allow the southern end of the listening area (Charlotte County) an advantage in signal from those few mentioned stations from here in the Tampa market.

The Clear Channel HD transmitters are already at the ATC site therefore not on the air, I haven't heard when they will go back on air but when I was there it seemed that much work needed to be done. You can imagine the work involved in moving 3 FM's and HD's to a new tower site. If I get any news I will be glad to post.

Sounds like an exciting time for broadcast station nerds to be in the bay area.
Wish I were there :(

In Miami, ten class C/C0/C1 stations all transmit into the same combiner and each has an ERP in the middle to upper 90's KW range. The royal plural (we) would love to see the combiner. The stick also supports another C1 plus at least two or three full power UHF TV stations. The master FM antenna is everything above the top set of guy wires. Click to expand the view.

The view is impressive. Thank you for posting.

And the nab (all lower case) said that broadcasters wouldn't want to share a DAB multiplexer...right!

Is that what is going on here?

Is the trend to have an "Empire scenario", one where everybody has their signal eminating from the same place?

Just a little extra 411...
The social outkast with its own antenna is Jamz 99.1
The stick just above it with the two white donoughts is mostly non-broadcast stuff but upon it, also is the LPTV virtual channel nine from Deutsche Welle.
The one to the left with the candelabra is a brand new stick which replaced channel 10 and 101.5's old one for virtual channels 7 & 10 and WLYF, 101.5.
Just below that is the old (painted) analog channel 7 tower.
South of that with the "T" top, also painted, are or were virtual channels 2, 17 & 23; they finally removed a huge circular polarized analog channel 2 antenna from just under the platform.
A bunch of the TV stations relocated during the transition but I have lost interest in keeping up with them.

This just in: Not any more, this stick is still on Google earth, but not in the real world!

I read the Radio-Locator map for WFUS. Seems like they will lose a few miles of coverage to the north. So coverage will be gained to the south. (Charlotte County) However would be lost to the north. (Hernando and Citrus County.)

WMTX and WFLZ will stay the same though.

So WXTB, WDUV and WSUN will be the only broadcasts from Holiday from what I here.

I find it hard to believe Clear Channel will spend money with their upcoming financial situation. And most of their funding going to digital.

Same problem to the north. Back in 2004 Cox had the chance to move the transmitter of WXGL To Holiday. Not the mention could upgrade WXGLs C1 License to a full-C. While not affecting southerly coverage would have greatly improved coverage in Hernando and Citrus Co. (2 Counties with huge populations of retires.) Cox started plans and then just scrapped them.

The big media giants only care about Hillsbourgh, Pineallas, Manatee and Pasco.

Were I live I have the same problem. I'm on the border between Weak Stereo and a very weak mono signal. Don't see the media companies improving things to the north a bit. (Even though Hernando is on the Tampa Radio DMA.) While Charlotte County is NOT.

We are rich in Active Rock and Easy Listening but that's it.

I really do NOT fell that any of the so called Tampa stations give a damn about Manatee County....Radio or TV...

It's been 2 1/2... and now almost 3 months since 93.3/100.7/103.5 have been in HD. Any update on this work? Not that many people probably care, but I think it's BS when a broadcasting company like Clear Channel promotes HD Radio and the whole "this sounds great, buy a new radio" and then goes and turns off the signals for this length of time. I realize they were moving antennas and they're not losing any advertising dollars with Club Phusion, Pride Radio, and Thunder off air, but to those folks who were actually enjoying those stations it's a lame excuse. I'd like someone to explain why it's taking 3 months to "re-install" and "move" equipment.

CC Miami, and probably everywhere, also has the nasty habbit of processing the HD1 to sound just as squished and limited as the analogue.

I'm thinkin' they feel as though there is no ROI to justify it.

I would still like to have HD as an option with my ntg4 software defined radio.

Does anybody know the bay configuration at both radio towers. The one for the Cox stations and the one for the Clear Channel.

I'm on the razor-clip 50DBu fringe for all the Tampa stations. However it seems to me I can pick up a better signal from 94.9 and 101.5 than I can 100.7, 93.3 and especially 103.5. Still a weak signal none of the less. However my car radio will automatically scan to the Cox stations. But will skip the Clear Channel stations due to them being too weak. Oh and I get less static from 94.9 and 101.5 than I do the others. I pick up a 50DBu signal from the C.C stations but a 51 from the Cox stations.

Whats interesting though is the Cox tower has a distance of an extra 2 miles than from the tower that the Clear Channel stations used. So it must be the bay confutation.
