Also why flip when you are the only game in town (numer 8 in the last ratings) and last time they messed with the station in less than 2 years, the heritage calls came back and all.... Plus they have a very popular morning show....

Cause the only competition is two out of town Chr/Urbans, two chr/pops that are spotty in BR at best and a Diva that loves Disco....

Hum.... I would say pick another station.... CC got a few not doing too hot in New Orleans before the strong cluster (except WYNK-am) in BR...

All of the CC Baton Rouge stations (Wynk, WFMF, and WJBO) have all been around a while and handled the competition with ease, without even a glimmer of flipping the format. 'FMF a couple of years ago was having problems with music rotation, but have now got back on track, and not to mention adding a great morning show like Kidd Kraddick didn't hurt either.

I think I can safely say this: no.

If you're going to want to make people think a station is actually going to flip, pick one that's NOT doing well. Might pick up some traction.

Like folks have said before, the only real problem 102.5 has seen in recent years was the whole Loose 102/WLSS thing. Once that was tweaked out of existence, FMF has been doing just fine in the format with no need to make major changes.

The only CC pop station I would see flip would be more along the lines of KSTE than WFMF... Read the board.... Theyre people in New Orleans who rather a CHR/Main like this...

I'll trade Y101 in Jackson for WFMF. Seriously, I've always liked 'FMF and was glad they came back after a short absence. What was up with the Loose 102 deal?

The sentence should have read... There are "radio people" like the ones on this board who'd rather a CHR/mainstream like this... WFWF is boring after ten. No competition, nothing even close but I doubt New Orleans radio listeners are begging for a CHR like WFMF. Kraddick is the reason the WFMF does well in the a.m. and the reason there is, when was the last time WMF had a REAL morning show? I know it's been over 15 years. Same with B97 but not as long. Rob & Rob was the last REAL morning show there with any talent or longevity. After that, who was there for any period of time that made a real impact?

Loose 102/Good morning shows

First, Rob and Rob being a great morning show? Come on. Savage in the Morning was a great show on FMF when Rob was the producer, though. Loose 102 was the bright idea of a former GM of FMF. In the 1970's, when FM radio was somewhat new, 102 was called Loose 102 for a time. It was an AOR format, actually. Anyway, "this" guy thought it a good idea to use that moniker in order to reposition the station in 1996....it was believed it had gotten too urban. He removed all the urban stuff, but just after the launch of the new station, corporate came to town and made them add the urban back into the playlist. I never understood why they thought a female demo would be cool with a station called "LOOSE 102" or why in god's name they would drop heritage call letters. Lucky for them, Greg Herpin did not snatch them up..although he thought about it. As far as a great morning show on FMF...like most who are from here, I grew up with Randy Rice and Jim Nasium. Looking back, I know they were corny as hell, but what did we know then? :) Jim/Danny is a wonderful person and I really hope is doing ok with the MS he was diagnosed with years ago....terrible things happen to the best people it seems.

Re: Loose 102/Good morning shows

Kid Kraddick is a good morning show. It's good that FMF has a stable morning show. Remember from about 96- till Kraddick when they were having new morning shows on a regular basis. Tom and Tasha, Bender and Tasha, Bender and Maybe, I know there was a few more. I think the old PD was on in the morning too.

Re: Loose 102/Good morning shows

it wasn't the GM, Manny Broussard who wanted Loose 102, it was OM, Chuck Gieger who fought for the change, because he knew that Manny was getting fired very soon and they were bringing in Chris Wegman from South Texas/North Mexico..of course, good ole Chuck didn't know his butt from a hole in the ground and didn't file the correct paperwork in time, so for the first month or so after the "switch", they were still WFMF, not WLSS...

Speaking of WFMF...

Does anybody remember WFMF's short stint as AC? "The Best Mix of the 80s & Today" ...

I remember hearing it when I visited Lafayette back around Thanksgiving of 1994 (I lived in Mobile at the time), and by the time I came back in May of 1995, it was back to CHR.

That was way worse than Loose 102, IMO.

No I stand by what I said originally to a point... It depends upon the listeners tastes... WFMF plays almost the same stuff as others but leans it more to the Hot A/C side of pop than most other CHR/POP stations I listen to on a regular basis (KSMB/WFMF/KQID/WEZB) with KQID (q93 Alexandria) doing a good 50/50 mix... SMB and EZB both lean more urban IMO.

I have found people outside of the normal kid listeners will sometimes listen to a station that plays music they don't like if the station as a whole is done right..IMO WFMF is done right and KQID is done right during the dayparts for these non traditional listeners. I'm one of them....

SMB and EZB only seem to worry about their core youth listeners, and that's maybe why the non-traditionals seek out stations like FMF IMO (as what WFMF is right now is what most listeners assumed b97 (WEZB) was going to be after taking on Kidd and Killing the zone.... 6 months later it's back for the most part to the same style playlist as before with a little more rock and less hardcore rap.

So it depends more on the person's tastes than anything... I figure a lot of zone listeners in New orleans are pissed at the raw deal they got after entercon's promises of softening WEZB fell thru.

Re: Loose 102/Good morning shows

yep, Johnny A was PD/morning show host for many times between real hosts..after Johnny was fired, the station lost any connection to the REAL WFMF..take from someone who was there

Re: Loose 102/Good morning shows

Does JBO count as your being there? I think they are referring to Flash Phillips being with Bender for a while. Johnny was gone a good while by that point. And as far as M. Broussard is concerned, he was right there with Geiger on the WFMF/LOOSE 102 fiasco..however, he can take sole credit for flipping 98.1 to disco just as disco was on its way out in the late 70's. He can also take credit for moving WYNK's Country Gold Saturday night( where it was a HUGE success) to Sunday nights because "he" did not want to hear that "old music" when he was driving home from an evening out on the town. You can take that from someone who was also there. And please tell me, what was the REAL WFMF? I am thinking that would be when the Manships owned the frequency. After they sold it, it went from one consultant to another..one format to another...until CC came in and streamlined it.
