Check out Dee Tension's post about WFNX Radio on Facebook today. Wow.

Here is Dee Tension's Facebook post:

Dee Tension
"I have stayed silent about WFNX and RadioBoston.com because I don't like to burn bridges and I am not currently affiliated with WFNX and Radio BDC hasn't hired me and they may or may not in the future.

"However today, WFNX, which has been a ****** of a corporation for quite some time has been slamming 101.7 The Harbor and RadioBDC on Facebook and Twitter.

"I mean, look at this obnoxious post from WFNX Radio:

""It is shocking how many people think that WFNX has something to do with a) the awful nonsense that now resides on 101.7 FM, or b) that New York-owned corporate newspaper's knockoff station that hasn't launched yet. People: there is only one WFNX and it is streaming right now at WFNX.com."

"Really FNX? It's shocking? Is it?

"What's shocking is that you WFNX suddenly lay off every employee one day and then slam them when they get new jobs. Forgive the public for associating DJ's who worked there and are clearly associated with WFNX, if they think RadioBDC has something to do with you. It's only your morning news man, mid morning host who happens to be a radio legend, your program director and your afternoon drive guy who people still associate with WBCN. Don't be shocked at "how many people" put two and two together. It's condescending bullshit for you to pretend to be shocked about that.

"I'll tell you what's shocking. What's shocking is that you abandoned your commitment to the alternative format and your employees and sold your station to the biggest radio conglomerate in the world and then you have the nerve to call their programming "awful nonsense". That awful non sense is YOUR FAULT. You sold it, you morons. Did you think they would keep it the way it was. You cannot possibly be that stupid so please don't pretend, in a ------- tweet, that you are that stupid.

"Oooooh how very shocking.

"I have seen you, WFNX, abuse your employees and run your own station, newspapers and magazines into the ground. Now you want to pretened that your shocked that life goes on without you? Please. Don't flatter yourself. You have no DJ's , your vans are for sale, you sold your gear and you fired everyone. Now you're pretending that you are going to exist as a revolutionary on line radio station? You didn't even want to be an on line station until a better newspaper with a better web site decided to take your fired DJ's and make a better product. Now you're back in the game? You ------- clowns, you classless twits, you small minded assholes. Go ---- yourself.

"I'd go on but I have to go to work. Just die already. No one is falling for your bullshit."

Wow! He speaks the truth. WFNX has been exhibiting no class all weekend on their Twitter and Facebook. It's disappointing. Good for D. The Sandbox guys have posted about it too.

Who is "Dee Tension" and why should we care?

D is 10 year WFNX DJ, most recently the morning man and a very respected member of the Boston music community. I don't know why you would care. Why I care and why this message has been passed to so many radio business people is that WFNX sold the station, laid off their staff and is now criticizing and taking shots at their former employees for the sin of getting new jobs. They're also taking shots at the company that they sold their signal to. As a former FNX employee who was among the abused (I quit because of how they treat people) it's awesome to see someone who has balls enough to speak the truth. He roasted them and I am among the many who are glad he did. One check of the wfnx facebook or D's facebook reflect the support he has on this statement.

Good luck with launching a new magazine. Isn't there already Boston magazine?

They should have kept the radio station and sold the newspaper.

Is a glossy cheaper to produce than a paper? I am failing to see the sense in this move. Then again...

They have been producing two publications, the "Boston Phoenix" paper and "Stuff" magazine.

I'm sure one publication is cheaper to produce than two (even if it's "glossy"), and the goal is to combine both audiences and any exclusive advertisers into one publication.

^^ What he said!!!

ADAM 12, JULIE KRAMER, HENRY SANTORO, and PAUL DRISCOLL are all together at Boston.com's new online radio station RadioBDC. They go live today at Noon.

@RadioBDC News: The wait is over. The band is back together & we go live with RadioBDC today at noon.

Radio BDC has The WFNX Brain Trust on the air. You cannot beat that.
WFNX.COM is just another modern rock jukebox

And I guess wfnx.com is already on but no DJs, etc.

"Putting the band back together" is what Jake and Elwood do in Blues Brothers...

With Radio BDC, it's really nice hearing an alt-rock station again with a local connection to its listeners. Radio 92.9 offers no interpersonal experience.

But it has great ratings, so obviously the market likes a Modern AC/classic Alternative jukebox. Incredibly boring to listen to, but people must be ok with it.

Who are those people?
Are they the same educated audiophiles that listened to WFNX?
I seriously doubt it.
The musicians, students, artists, music industry folks, and anyone with a brain knows that it's not just about music, the music is part of the education and informational experience of a radio station that can provide an experience where you leave a commute feeling inspired, and relaxed.
Radio BDC has the WFNX brain trust, and an increasingly eclectic musical database that will grow much faster that music service can provide.
As for the Phoenix on line station wfnx.com, it will sound like WBOS if BOS were alternative. once they hire some people, if they do, it should make for an interesting choice.
At this point, BOS steals listeners from WAAF

Should I go ask Ernie Boch Jr. if he'd prefer to sell cars to a few thousand relaxed and educated audiophiles or tens of thousands of everyday people who buy non-hipster new cars like Toyotas and Hondas?

If these "educated audiophiles" are so great, how come WFNX couldn't make a dime of profit? You'd think those listeners would be a dream come true for advertisers. The few FNX listeners must be too sophisticated to buy in to consumerism.

I thought the audiophiles were listening to jazz or classical, music with much more dynamic range than garage-band alt rock. A 56kb stream seems just right for this station.

You people just refuse to "get it". Radio 92.9 offers an interMUSICAL experience! Alt listeners prefer to hear MUSIC!. An Alt lover will turn down the audio when BOS plays a suck song; just as they do during a 10 spot stop set. Alt audience are not "button punchers".

Going back over the last 15 pages or so; I've found 4 (four) posts with 100+ replies. The WODS/WROR Christmas "who's first" thread has 329 posts and 26,500 views. The 103.3 to AMP post has 176 replies with 8,750 peeks.

OTOH, the "Welcome WHBA" post has 266 replies and 12,000 views and this thread has 477 replies with 25,000 looks for comparison. Why might you think this is?

Ask any 10 listeners what WBCN meant to them. One will say "Stern and O&A". Another will say "Classic rock", someone else will say "Modern Rock". Yet another will say "Progressive rock" and, of course, still another somebody will reply "Pats football". Don't forget "Active rock" either. So: WBCN tried to be all things to all people and ended up with no faithful audience whatsoever. FWIW, "The Rock of Boston" belongs on 104.1, NOT 98.5!

WFNX has been one thing for the last 29 years. ALTERNATIVE!

One year ago, NYC and Chicago had no Alt radio. Today, NYC has four Alts. One on 92.3 HD, another on 104.3 HD2, a non-com and finally: A big and bold WRXP back on 101.9! Chicago's WKQX was blown off 101 and re-assembled on a channel 6 MacGyver. WKQX is now getting the best numbers in years. You just can't have somebody's mother program an Alt. Last WFNX book was a 0.8 OTA and 0.5 internet stream. Let us wait and see how long it takes for WHBA to grab an 0.8 or the internet WFNXs to merit a 0.5.

Remember: It's all about the MUSIC!
