WFNX had a decent performance in the Fall 07 book. However I wouldn't use that performance to justify the weaking of the WFNX brand with Lovelines and a Mix 98.5 style playlist.

Let's also look at Summer 07, when the same changes were in effect:
I cannot quote ratings here, but stations with a better performance than WFNX in Sum 07 included: WNNW (an AM Latin station from Lawence), WJIB (beautiful music on the AM dial), WPLM (yawn) and WXRV. WFNQ's performance matched WFNX in that book.

So I don't think the programming changes at WFNX were the contributing factor to the fall 07 ratings, as the programming was just as lame in Spring 07 and Summer 07 as it was in Fall 07. FNX probably did some better marketing, and good for WFNX for doing that.

It still doesn't justify the lame programming changes.

And in Winter 08 numbers FNX is down again. Fall 07 looks like a fluke in retrospect.

what was lame about the programming decisions? putting in a new morning and afternoon show and adding loveline? how is that lame? if anything I think it's being progressive rather than relying on what was already in place and trying to tinker with it.

I don't know the answer to this, but what was FNX's ratings at their highest and when?

FNX will always chug along with their core audience and people will always show up to their concerts because they market their product effectively.

Well it obviously didn't work in Spring and Summer. Those ratings were LOWWWWW.
When an AM Spanish language station in Lawrence is pulling bigger numbers, you know the station is in trouble.
 
Ok, I have seen this mentioned a couple of times now. You really think that FNX's programming is akin to Mix's? I have listened to both stations, and quite frankly that is a "really big" stretch!
 
Seriously. This dude Ciao really has it out for 'FNX. And the comment about it being like Mix 98-5? I'd say it's more like 92.5 The River then Mix. I doubt I'd hear Madonna on 'FNX. lol
 
I respect WFNX Owner , for not selling out ( to Big Radio Co... Entercom,Clear Channel, Greater Madia, CBS ) , But this station (WFNX) is TRASH, like all Rock Crap stations in Boston . Thank God WHJY and WBRU ( Providence RI ) come in clear on The South Shore .

To answer the one intelligent question, FNX's highest ratings ever were in 1994 before BCN flipped to alternative and FNX was the only game in town playing Green Day, Nirvana, etc. FNX had a 2.4 in the fall 94 book. (12 plus). As the years have gone on FNX has gone up and down. During the rap-metal limp bizkit years FNX generally pulled a 1.5. From 2003 until recently (once FNX abandoned rap metal) the numbers were either at a one or below.

The Fall 2007 book was the 1.4 which was the highest since the Korn/Limp Bizkit years. The most recent trend was a 1.2 so ex radio pimp still might owe Special Ed a steak. I believe the bet was flat or up for Winter 08. We will know on April 29th.

You know, one could say the same about Jam'n as well, however they have the numbers though, so somebody likes it, just not me.
 
Jamn is not all that Great , 94.5 get great numbers, because they are only Rhythmic station in Boston ,and All other Boston Music stations, SUCKS ! Damn Shame , a Avg Rap station ,get big numbers in this Awful Radio market .When it come to music, Only Pirate and College Stations worth listening too , in Boston .

Maybe you should spend some time in an English 101 class while listening to that college radio you love so much!?!
 
A fan of new music is a fan of FNX. Nobody will like "every" song and I have gripes (tired 90's U2/everclear/Pearl Jam) but the new songs they bring to FM in Boston is something fans of new music in other markets would wish for.


everyone complains about the suck factor in music radio.....yet when someone doesn't suck with the music....bitching continues

Well, this is a BOSTON board (we have a tendency to complain about everything, it's too cold in winter and too hot in summer), and it is a RADIO board (every station could be better no matter what) so there you have it. I say enjoy everything for what it is. WFNX still is a leader in NEW music, but as has been pointed out a couple songs here and there could be changed, but still an awesome station! And yes SpEd deserves a steak.
