WGCL Requests New Callsign - WANF

The real reason that the call letter change can be had is "WANF-LD" is a Grey TV property as well.. It's the co-ownership piece that is the key.

Does that mean a fullpower FM station can snag the call letters of an LPFM as long as it's not in same market? I know an FM owner who would like to carryout that action. The FM owner tried that with the old "callsign finder webpage" but that always responded "No.. Callsign Already Assigned"

Please enlighten...
IIRC Co ownership is really easy to share call letters. If someone already has the calls they can be shared with "agreement$". Example WSM / WSM FM both in Nashville now have different owners. I doubt this is a "DIY" project. The FM commercial owner most likely will have pay a lawyer (familiar with FCC filings) to work out an "agreement ($)" with the LPFM operator. If the commercial operator's station is in a PPM market call letters mean very little to anyone except the FCC. If the LPFM i$ not convinced, is there an AM with the call letters your friend wants? There could be an "Agreement $". Use a lawyer to make sure it will work with the FCC.

IMHO Unless the call letters are "really cool" with significant meaning that can be monetized and can be part of the on air "brand" this might not be the best use of the commercial FM operator's money.

From what I can tell Grey is making an expensive commitment not to be the #4 news in Atlanta. Is this push because of the Corporate headquarters being in ATL or do they see becoming #1 or #2 in news will be a good return on their money?

They'll never be #1 or 2 no matter how much resources Gray puts into it. 2, 5 and 11 are the established. 46 will still be a tagalong.

Swung by their studio building last week while finishing a family matter. They still have "Meredith" on their sign facade.

Be careful saying 11 is established. I would rather say just 2 and 5 are established. TEGNA pretty much ruined 11. They're now #4 and for a good reason.

Well, established in the sense that those three news teams have been around longer. Will there be changes at 11 once Standard General assumes control?

Starting to see the transition starting with their website atlantanewsfirst.com up as well as their social media accounts. Perfect timing to get it going not just with October coming in a couple of days, but also an opportunity to promote the new news branding to a wide audience with WGCL/WANF showing Browns/Falcons this Sunday as it'll be a CBS game.

I thought they'd be promoting it on air big time over the past week or so like they did when announced they were switching to CBS in 1994 or when they became WGCL in 2000. Instead they're letting it seep into the viewers' minds by showing the ANF logo on their microphones. Maybe they will go whole hog promoting it this weekend.

Yeah, they have a video on their website about the change being at noon. Missed that. At the top of the hour they still superimpose WGCL as their call.

That would be the new digs to the north of Atlanta (Doraville where the GM plant was). That's still being built (or at least designed). Meanwhile, they're still on 14th Street in Midtown.
