WHAS is pityful.

Maybe when CC declares bankruptcy, Cox will buy WHAS and make it a clone of WSB. I know it probably won't happen.

Of course Cox did tease about "News/Talk 103RKA" prior to country. Imagine the possibilities.
How are the ratings for the nu QNU? Would they blow up the country station?

The demise of WHAS started when they moved Pig Limbaugh to noon and then all the good local talent started to depart (Wayne Perkey, Jack Fox, Doug McKelvin, Van Vance, Milton Metz and of course Joe Donovan). I used to listen to WHAS for several hours a day but no longer. It is pretty sad when I rely on 700 WLW for breaking news and weather coverage and they are in Cincinnati, Ohio.
I actually waited on Van Vance in a bookstore last week and he looked well and still has a great voice. I told him that many of us enjoy when he appears on Sportstalk, but he said he is really enjoying his retirement.

The "News/Talk 103RKA" was a great spoof, but as far as I can tell it was just that. I have to think CC/WHAS was the prime target for the spoof. Them, and us radio heads here. The average Joe Radio Listener may not have caught it. I seriously doubt if Cox would blow up 103.1 (or 103.9 or 106.9 or 107.7) now for N/T. I can't find the Louisville ratings on here right now, but they're all doing well. Maybe down the road when 107.7 reaches format irrelevancy, but I have to think that's still a few years off.

At the time of the spoof, WRKA was blowing up oldies for demo reasons. Cox knows News Talk and WHAS is a sitting target on a band with worse demo problems than the oldies format. It would have cost more money to execute but the results would be the final nail in the coffin for Louisville AM radio.

This has irritated me since I was northbound on I-65 from south of Louisville late on a Sunday afternoon maybe 3-4 years ago & suddenly found traffic had stopped. My instinct was to go to WHAS...what a waste of time. Top of hour ID...2 minutes of Fox News, a spot & then 2 minutes of Kentucky News Network telling about (I kid you not) cows loose on a highway in SE Kentucky. .
I read this and get an image of the "newscaster" from KORN on Hee Haw. I wonder what he's doing these days.

They are still running the "24 hour news, weather and traffic" source. I suppose so, just as long as nothing breaks after 9pm weekdays.

And the HD pink noise generator has been turned off since September of last year, yet the top of the hour IDs indicate they are still broadcasting in HD. Who is in charge over there?

They've had the same imaging for years. The FCC should not look to kindly on them for saying they are broadcasting in HD when they are not.

I don't know if the FC really cares about that. They are too busy worrying about stupid things like public files and EAS logs. However, for a station that wants one to trust them when it comes to news, they are not proving very trustworthy when they say they are in "HD" and they are not, and they say they are the 24 hour information station when they are indeed not....they are the 16 hour information station.

It's called "credibility". Something they are losing on a daily basis.
