It was launched about a month ago as WWPI-LD 16.1
They are right now on the tower at their studio in Presque Isle but will be moving it to Mars Hill (where WAGM is) in the spring
but it is carried in some parts of New BrunswickThanks
In this day and age you have to commend Gray Television to staying commited to 'The County' when it would be so easy to outsource everything to WABI in Bangor. Presque Isle has to be one of the most challenging markets simply because there is no money in the area. Throw in that the CRTC does not have WAGM on the list of US stations that can be distributed has to be a hardship for potential viewers in New Bruinswick.

The only way WWPI can be viable is if Spectrum Cable adds the station and drops WLPZ Bangor. Right now Spectrum sends the county ABC from Portland (WMTW) bypassing WVII in Bangor.
addition since edit time has passed
That list is not the be all end all for carriage. Winnipeg carries WDAZ ABC Grand Forks, ND and PBS Fargo/Grand Forks on its cable system. Neither are listed on that list which is the list for approved stations tr be distributed in Canada. if it can be picked up OTA it can be carried. This list is a little more comprehensive

I can confirm that as of Sunday, Oct.10, while visiting Fort Kent Maine and staying at a motel with Spectrum cable that WWPI is the NBC outlet for Aroostook County. No sign of WLBZ.
Now that the county has an NBC station - as well as FOX, CBS, and CW, will they ever get a local ABC affiliate?

They could but the FCC might frown on it due to monopoly rules. When Gray started up KMNF-LD in Mankato, MN they added NBC & CW. Folks asked if ABC would be added later. From the news articleThey can add it on WWPI-LD 16.2 if they wish.
