What became of WAGM's plan to add NBC?

It was launched about a month ago as WWPI-LD 16.1
They are right now on the tower at their studio in Presque Isle but will be moving it to Mars Hill (where WAGM is) in the spring

In this day and age you have to commend Gray Television to staying commited to 'The County' when it would be so easy to outsource everything to WABI in Bangor. Presque Isle has to be one of the most challenging markets simply because there is no money in the area. Throw in that the CRTC does not have WAGM on the list of US stations that can be distributed has to be a hardship for potential viewers in New Bruinswick.

The only way WWPI can be viable is if Spectrum Cable adds the station and drops WLPZ Bangor. Right now Spectrum sends the county ABC from Portland (WMTW) bypassing WVII in Bangor.

A friend of mine's daughter wanted to get into broadcasting and I asked her if she was willing to start at the bottom and she went to WAGM and then Springfield, MA and now Greenville, SC.

Thanks

but it is carried in some parts of New Brunswick
On cable, it is seen throughout Northwestern New Brunswick towns such as Woodstock, Grand Falls, and Edmundston.

Dish and Directv added it within the first month of it going on air (they legally had to drop NBC2 in Bangor) so there is that. Moving to the Mars Hill tower will help

addition since edit time has passed

That list is not the be all end all for carriage. Winnipeg carries WDAZ ABC Grand Forks, ND and PBS Fargo/Grand Forks on its cable system. Neither are listed on that list which is the list for approved stations tr be distributed in Canada. if it can be picked up OTA it can be carried. This list is a little more comprehensive

According to a Public Notice from Spectrum published in the Sat/Sun. Feb 1/2 weekend edition of Bangor Daily News "Effective on or after March 13, 2020 WLBZ-NBC will be replaced by WWPI-NBC on Basic starter TV Channels 2 and 1203"
It includes most, if not all of the towns in Aroostook County, Maine

I can confirm that as of Sunday, Oct.10, while visiting Fort Kent Maine and staying at a motel with Spectrum cable that WWPI is the NBC outlet for Aroostook County. No sign of WLBZ.

As expected. Unless you can get a good over-the-air signal, say goodbye to seeing WLBZ forever in that county.

Now that the county has an NBC station - as well as FOX, CBS, and CW, will they ever get a local ABC affiliate?

They can add it on WWPI-LD 16.2 if they wish.

They could but the FCC might frown on it due to monopoly rules. When Gray started up KMNF-LD in Mankato, MN they added NBC & CW. Folks asked if ABC would be added later. From the news article
By the way, Ask Us Guy wondered if maybe KEYC would target ABC as its next offering. Woloszyn said that’s not likely because of anti-monopoly regulations.

Although one note. Gray does own all the network affiliations in Harrisonburg, WV
WHSV ABC & My Network
WSVF-CD CBS & FOX
WSVW-LD NBC & CW

Any opinions of how Corey Bouchard is doing at WAGM?
