WHAT DO YOU THINK OF KWBF STREETS 101.1?

Little Rock's Arbitron ratings for Fall 2009 are in and KZTS Streets 101.1 posted a 1.9 share. Fall 2009 was the station's first full season with the urban format and new call letters. Their ratings are pretty good considering their limited signal and the fact that they don't advertise, and don't even have a website.

Beginning in April, Streets 101.1 will be the Little Rock affiliate for "The Rickey Smiley Morning Show". I wonder what this will do for the station as a whole. As well as how it will affect the ratings for "The Broadway Joe Morning Show" over on KIPR Power 92.

Rickey has been adding more stations all over.Smart move, provided KZTS Streets 101.1 "Customizes"(in other words, the host records local breaks, etc. for each station he is on) the show to this market over time. The signal is Clear & stronger,It appears that they have moved the transmitter to it's new home & finished upgrades/adjustments. Hopefully they will pick a good "PD",unlike Crain Media (KHTE/Hot96.5) who almost got sued because of Their "PD"'s lapse of judement for taking a Cheap shot @ a local celebrity, among other things....

Since the power increase to 850 watts, and moving the transmitter to Shinall I can actually hear them most of the time on my low VHF/FM "DX" setup (Sangean HDT-1, RS VU190 VHF/UHF TV antenna, CM Spartan Preamp) near Star City. This morning, KZTS is full quieting. Before the power increase on the temporary antenna site they were seldom heard unless there was some decent tropo scatter.

That said KZTS might get win over a few hip-hop listeners in metro LR, but they won't be a player in Pine Bluff unless they get another frequency. The few ads I've heard were for cellphone resellers, clubs, etc. The audio quality is somewhat better than KIPR, but I'm no fan of hip-hop/gangsta rap so....

I have heard that Ricky Smiley will be on 101.1... In my opinion, he will kill the Broadway Joe Morning show. The BJMS show is the worst morning show I have heard in sometime. He has two females on there that do nothing but male bash and scream about religion. That is a FAIL for urban radio. Broadway Joe is well beyond the demo he broadcast to and he don't give "f" about it. 101.1 point will have a huge morning show following. The show is hip-hop.. They have a live dj mixer during part of the show and variety of topics for everyone. Not that lame power people poll which only shows how ignorant some his listeners are. Broadway Joe is going to have to do more than give away tickets to concerts to keep his head above water on this one. He is more concerned about Blues on the River and other Blues and oldies events than giving the Little Rock area big concerts and shows like other stations do in other cities. There is no more Juneteenth so if 101.1 is smart, they should jump in and pull a huge show together. I believe that 101.1 does have the same PD as the former 96.5 but I don't believe he will have the free reign he had when working for Crain. The owner of this station knows his ish! But anyway, the signal is very weak and I don't believe it reaches Pine Bluff. If not, folks south of LR will need to lean on Power 92 to hear urban radio which is a big hole for 101.1...nothing but brothers and sisters down south, now counting Sheridan of course. LOL

Finally.......there is a website! www.streets1011.com. If you look on the website, the Programming Director is Joe "DJ No Name" Ratliff. If that name rings a bell to anyone, it's because he used to be the PD at KHTE Hot 96.5 before the format changed. I just wish I knew what day the "Rickey Smiley Morning Show" is going to air.

And, assuming this is the same guy, No Name was on Power 92 something like 15 years ago. Funny as hell, especially little things like how he'd answer the phone in his recorded phoners, screaming with such twang, "NINTY-TWO!"

It's confirmed program director/afternoon host "DJ NO NAME" aka Joe Ratliff has been let go from KHTE Hot 96.5 / Crain Media Group / Little Rock Arkansas. No name along with side kick B level and Anphernee P were let go Monday evening. Rumor has it there was a bit about hometown boxing star Jermaine Taylor that went too far. After Taylor's manager spoke with the owner of the station the 3 were terminated. Although there was previous speculation of a format tweak coming to the signal soon, this too may have something to do with it...................................................................
Here is to hope that History does not repeat itself,Mr. Ratliff hit below the belt, something his competition was smart enought to avoid

After months of waiting, The Rickey Smiley Morning Show premiered on Streets 101.1 this morning. 7/12/10. Finally, Little Rock has an alternative to the Broadway Joe Morning Show over on Power 92 Jams.

He is the same DJ No Name from KHTE aka former APD "Broadway Joe" (from KTTB which is why he can't use that name due to the Morning show on KIPR) and afternoon talent former Hip Hop WWDM before the flip to UAC.
