I was thinking the same thing: this is not the way the system works. A top-ten market is not offering an on-air position to someone without a BASIC knowledge of radio. This omega guy may be extremely talented...but obviously has zero experience.X-14 said:

what does a jock in Atlanta make.

I am not IN Atlanta, although I was recently considering applying for the Project 9-6-1 morning gig (until I realized what a mess that whole situation is). By comparison, I am an OM/PD/moring guy in a 200+ market with small and medium market experience, and I make 45K a year before endorsments and remotes, around 55K after that.
Maybe I should just hang out with a secure smaller company, where my job is rock solid, and get by on that.

I dont see the need to try to put me down ive been out of the top 10 markets for about 3 years now and havent been back since and i was trying to see if anything had changed and how market 5 compared to market 10! It sucks to know their are so many people on this board that are so angry with the industry and just dont have any talent and feel they need to bring others down!

Here's an idea: find a PD willing to listen to your demo tape and offer to work for free for a month.
Tell him or her they can walk away no questions asked or keep you and pay you what you are worth, which will probably be less than they pay everybody else because nobody wants to pay anything.
But at least you'll have a solid bottom number to work with!

Wow, those salaries are suprisingly low. I'm glad 20 years ago I chose a television career instead of my first love (radio). I just sensed it would be more secure. After 16 years at the same Atlanta company I think I chose correctly. Certainly make much more than what was just posted and I'm just a glorified bean counter (well, it's a little more involved than that, but I'm not on air talent). Of course, even TV has been having some problems as of late.
Sorry guys i guess i wont be going to Atlanta after all! I just took a job in market 5 Dallas i start the first monday of the years! Sorry guys but even if i do type fast and misspell alot of words i do have to add that im currently the number 1 rated dj in my current market in the top 100 in every demo!

Did I see 30 posts back that mid-day jocks average 45-55? Gotta think Mara makes double that. Wouldnt even someone as vanilla as Jordan Graye make at least 75? Am I crazy?

I come in here with no intencion of offending anyone and all you guys do is talk shit! I will be working for Liberman Broadcasting's new stations and i will not doubt be making more money then alot of you guys that hide behind a nick name and pretend you know it all! I im not a rookie just unaware of how things flow in Atlanta!
