What does this say about Fox News?

Tribune's FOX 61 in Hartford initially was running the internet feed of CBS 4 WBZ before switching over to CNN rather than FOX News for coverage of the incident at The Boston Marathon. What does this say about FOX News? FOX 61 is also a CNN affiliate.

Not now.

Being that it's only two hours away up I-84 and then I-90 from their Broad Street studio, WTIC-TV had one of their reporters close to Boston Common taking comments and showing clips about the tragedy a few minutes after 6 PM (Eastern).

STAY STRONG BOSTON! :(

Fox News was still reporting the casualty toll as 23 when both CNN and MSNBC was reporting the updated total as 111+. A numerical indicator.

Were you referring to reports of injuries or deaths?

Injuries - 141 per CNN as I write this. There are two confirmed deaths, including an 8-year-old boy.

Casualties are injuries plus deaths, by definition...

Don't all the Tribune stations have ties to CNN? I have seen other Tribune stations simulcast CNN during breaking news.

It says nothing about Fox News. It's a local station owned by tribune with a connection to a sister station in Boston I believe.

Actually, it's a former sister station in Boston (WLVI). More importantly, though, Boston is only two hours away from Hartford AND the largest city in New England, which Hartford is in.

Also, the CBS, ABC, and NBC affiliates in Boston are also CNN affiliates -- meaning that they provide reports and video to CNN. The Fox station is not a CNN affiliate... because it's a Fox O&O and undoubtedly isn't allowed to be a CNN affiliate. Not being a Fox O&O, WTIC doesn't have that problem.

Our FOX affiliate in Colorado Springs ran the live feed from WCVB-5 in Boston, the ABC affiliate until 5 MT / 7 ET. It's in process of being sold to Sinclair, wonder if that would change things in such a situation in the future?

No matter what the story, or how tragic it is, someone always starts a 'I'm going to discuss how much Fox News sucks while I play with myself' thread. All news channel suck in varying ways, but we're kind of stuck with them when there's breaking news.
I followed some of CNN's afternoon coverage on my computer(because that's what Comcast offers for their Xfinity video service...apparently because Fox sucks).
CNN had some 'terrorism expert' interviewed by Wolf Blitzer, going off on a tangent about how IF this was a bomb, and IF it was made from hydrogen peroxide, THEN it may or may not fit the profile of known Al Qaeda bomb makers... ::)
3 dead, over 100 injured, one 'potential person of interest from Saudi Arabia', and lots of hot air.

For better or for worse it says that Fox News Channel has absolutely no contingency plan to provide affiliates with network-wide breaking news coverage (as the other networks do). As far as carrying the FNC feed (which was anchored all afternoon by Shepherd Smith, for which I really think we can all be thankful for), I don't know if that perhaps is restricted to O&Os only. I know Houston carried FNC.

I also know that during Sandy Hook in December, the network did a quick cut-in and then turned it back over to affiliates. However, a couple hours later they allowed the O&Os (and maybe the affiliates, but I doubt it since it was transmitted on the O&O in-house sat feed) to carry WNYW's wall-to-wall coverage.

And whomever up above is correct, Fox O&Os are not allowed to affiliate with CNN.

NBCSPORTS Network was covering up intill Hockey Game with a Live Boston Local Station feed.

ESPN changed it's programming around no NBA Coast to Coast so Kevin Connors could o a Sportscenter with Karl Ravech meaning Adam Virk had to come in on his day off to do the Pregame and Jon S. added 10pm Baseball Tonight to his Schedule because already doing overnight one. Also at Midnight West Coast Sportscenter came on. Sent home it looked like 6pm to 11pm Sportscenter host for the day and the Jorge and Randy early so Schapp and Boy Ley could come on. Also started Sportscenter this morning at 6am.

Fox4kc left and went to Judy Judge at some point at in the 4 0'clock hour but just for a couple of Minutes then went back. KMBC didn't show their 6pm Newscast intill 6:30pm so they could stay with ABC but KCTV5 didn't want to stay with CBS at 6pm. KCTV5 and KSHB never showed their 4pm Newscast not even on their other Channels.

There was no local news on WFSB/3/Merideth/CBS, WVIT/30/NBC O&O, WTNH/8/LIN-TV/ABC, or WGGB/40/Gormally/ABC (Springfield). At 4PM FOX 61 switched from CNN to local coverage. Sometime after 6:30 is when I noticed Fox News on FOX 61. After 7:30PM is when I noticed everyone running regular programming except for FOX 61, which was still showing Fox News into prime-time as well.
