What format would 'YSP switch to?

I would stick to rock...BUT...I would definitely stop the constant 50 title repetition, whenever I put them on its the same GnR, VH, PJ, staple. They should add all the new metal and alternative tracks exploding on the scene today, plus the older hair and heavy metal tunes. You must admit, they sound stale and predictable, they should take a lesson from RFF, fresh and exciting, music wise and little chatter. Also, unload the Eagles and all sports related topics, plus the sleezy chick jocks and jargon. Concentrate on the music and new bands coming up. Everything from Kings of Leon to Wasp, Dokken, Warrant, Lamb of God, Pistols, Y&T, Avenged, Killswitch, Slipknot, PATD and on and on, stop going after the Tetestorone, sports crazy, Chickie and Petes, Tony Luke listener, god they should get the message by now, or go under.....the morning show is tolerable for now....

I don't think a Neo Metal leaning format that plays Kings of Leon is the answer here.

And why unload the Eagles? That is literally the ONLY place WYSP makes money. Those blue collar sports guys are their bread and butter. Problem is they are also MMR's bread and butter too.

I do agree with dumping the crusty old stuff. But somebody still wants to hear it.

I think what they have to look at is what format would gell with Eagles football and Merrill's shows. Soft AC, CHR, Standards would not be in order with the sports. Country, Hot Talk, Hard Rock, maybe Urban would work but not the others.

Actually, it usually is the Standards station in many areas which carries the local sporting events... high school, college, minor league baseball. One example was the old AM 1290 WJBR which carried the Wilmington Blue Rocks and Delaware basketball. A national professional team might be a different issue though.

Isn't MMR already Active Rock? (Though I guess they do play plenty of wussie stuff).

The last time Philly had a true Active Rocker was WYSP circa 1996, they were a full blown Active Rocker when the term was brand new. Although the listener had to suffer through Grease, Ferril and the other talk shows inbetween, DeBella, Cherf, Toxic, they did so well soon Grease and Ferril were gone and the music ruled.....maybe if YSP bites the dust somebody will flip to real Active..

I agree, filly needz a danz stayshun, but that won't happen anywhere above 88.9 megahertz. And it would be impossible for the Pulse 87 empire to spread to Philly, at least on 87.7.

Could CBS Radio make the CHR war in Philly a threesome? Would a new FM sports station capitalize on the Phillies Phever? XTU's sitting nice and pretty all to itself, maybe it could use a little competition. KYW sure could use a signal boost, FM is the new AM.

You guys already have Z-88.9 Jersey and a translater on 95.1 for Philly,,, Its all dance before 6 PM,, and then goes back to dance after midnight, plus if you live in south Philly you can pick up Super 91.7 in Wilmington.

Not really, KDU is a monster and blocks everything on 91.7, in fact, I have a tuff time picking up Alternative 91.5 from Blackwood due to the strength of KDU in SP...

YSP should turn into a clone of 1057 The X in Harrisburg, and 1071 The Bone in Allentown.

why is it that MMR is yet tp air:

All That Remains - Two Weeks
Slipknot - Dead Memories
Slipknot - Psychosocial
Hollywood Undead - Undead
Five Finger Death Punch - Stranger Than Fiction, Never Enough, or The Bleeding

these all have heavy rotation on REAL Active Rock Stations, and all these songs kick ass and should have airplay IN philadelphia. Bottom Line. time to drop the U2, and get REAL ROCK!

Every Greater Media rock station is like this. They're all far softer than most Active Rock stations, and play much more classic rock (Van Halen, Pink Floyd, Doors - there really is no limit to how old-school or soft they'll go) than the majority of them as well. This also includes 105.5 WDHA and 95.9 WRAT. The latter is actually giving Buckcherry's "Sorry" (a lite-rock song that went nowhere on rock radio) at least one or two spins a day! I have tried sending feedback to WRAT saying "Why don't you play some heavier rock?", but I never heard back from anyone. They especially play these sound-alike rock bands (Nickelback, Theory Of A Deadman, Hinder, Saving Abel, etc.) constantly, seemingly unaware that not everyone cares much for them.

Philly has four rock stations: Two classic rock stations (MGK leans somewhat older than YSP), a 75% classic rock / 25% newer rock station (MMR), and an Alternative-lite station (WRFF). Typical CBS: Instead of going proper Active Rock or Alternative Rock, YSP goes with a chicken rock sound, calling it "the rock you grew up with" ... I call it the rock I throw up with. RFF and MMR are both on the safe side and leave some listeners wanting more, but unfortunately I don't expect a tweak from either of them unless ratings drop.

You said it soulcrusher, Correct me if I'm wrong but wasn't YSP philly's number 1 rock station back in 1998 or 2000? I don;t exactly remember the exact year, but what I do remember is it sounded the best. I believe then you also had Y-100 which I aslo liked. I used to love to listen to the radio then, cause radio on the turnpike at that time consisted of a GOOD K-Rock and then south 94.1 YSP, and Y-100. I think YSP was the hardest rocking station of that time, I used to try to dx them on Long Island. Why, would they not try to lean active hard rock again? I mean they did a kick ass job of it in the past, they claimed to be #1 so it must have worked. I know that if this happens I sure as hell will be tuning in again, right now I occasionally listen to 104.5. Thoughts

In 1998 and 2000, they had someone on in the morning who was getting slightly better ratings than what they're getting now.
