What happened to country radio??

Country ratings seem to go in cycles. It has as much to do with the musical talent (or lack of same) as the radio talent.
Everytime it goes too far towards pop, it fades a bit, then some one rediscovers a classic sound.
(george strait, randy travis, etc etc)
Posters are correct about there being many options, but to be the mainstream country choice, the station should at least SEEM like the personalities care about the music.
Sometimes it sounds like they crank it out like sausage.
And what a broad Jenre...I just wish we'd here more variety;
Bob Wills, Asleep at the Wheel, John Hartford, Flatt and Scruggs, Buck Owens, Mavericks, Chet Atkins, Tex Williams, and for god sake MERLE HAGGARD!
(Heck, even the Grateful Dead have some songs that sound like country.) maybe an adventurous programmer could slip something different in, with enough information so the announcer could set it up, and SELL the song...
Other than that, I love the Dorsey Gang, and that Ranger Lowe fellow on 95.3....
g

GENRE, sorry. HEAR not HERE. Sorry again.
And insert a little ;D next to that "Ranger Lowe" crack...
it's kinda like a joke...

For this listener country got very ill when the Urban Cowboy came out. Then came Garth and his country KISS act with his imitators and it became terminal. When the MOR format died a lot of folks who would be played there became "country." That pretty much killed it for me.

You can have the best format in the world but what happens when your listeners are tired of your product?

Grant, agree with you on the Dorsey statement. If it weren't for Dorsey KSCS would be in the 2s

Texas fought so hard to win our independence from them. Heck,
we might as well be giving it back to them. I don't mind ethinicity,
but at the same time, we need to tighten our immigration controls
so the US doesn't change into Mexico City everywhere I go, and
on the radio. It's very rapidly becoming that, especially in the
southern states. They need to be learning f**ing English. It shouldn't
be me trying to learn Spanish.

Dallas Fort Worth radio sucks as a result. Everywhere you turn, there's
a freakin' Mexican station. And don't give me a line " I need to adapt".
BS! THEY need to adapt to us!. Just look at the ratio of English speaking
to foreign speaking stations in DFW. It's pathetic.

That's why I don't listen to country music. It seems to draw a demographic and "way of thinking" that I'm not very fond off. Not to mention the country radio turned thier backs on the Dixie Chicks for expressing thier dislike for a president that incidently has the lowest approval rating ever. It seems most people don't like him. I must add I'm all for immigration control. I just don't use the redneck "learn to speak English lingo". And I don't consider myself necessarily liberal or conservative, I just felt country radio got way to white trash/redneck/bible thumping leaning for me. Thank god for Ipods and satellite radio.

Wow! I'm new to the board, and I'm reading all this over nothing! This is not the first time for Country to trend out... and to be honest, I'm pleased it's happening in DFW first. We won the race! We beat the crap out of the rest of the country in the realm of WEARING OUT P1s with the SOS. I was sad when Paul Williams was let go, and I was sad when Susquehanna sold, but today I'm the saddest - NOBODY cared more about the gig inside and out than Amy, and now she's out. If Justin Frazell leaves, there won't be enough of 'the Wolf' left to market. I loved it because it wasn't KHKS.

Maybe I'm grieving this way. I dunno.

That's the REALLY sad part of it. Amy B DID care and look what she got! Moral of the story:

Don't get too emotionally connected to the job...sure, work your butt off and care but realize your card will be up one day. :'(

Laffer could not be more correct. There is not ONE day that goes by without making sure my resume and air tape is tight. That's simply the world we live in these days, gents. Amy was a wonderful asset to this fledgling market, and she was shown the door. Imagine what could to us if we start sucking?!

Amy B will land somewhere ,and who knows KSCS may come knocking, perhaps The Ranch. I listened to the Wolf ,and to me its "Muzak" with commercials. Poor Smokey. John Sebastian, should have kept his gig with "the Lovin Spoonful';)

KSCS passed on Amy B several years ago. They have a chance to hire her again. DON"T BLOW IT THIS TIME KSCS!!!!!

YOU NEED AMY B in Middays or Afternoons if you want to finally WIDEN the the gap significantly.

Since she lives in Arizona, I'm betting she's done in Dallas. She wanted to leave a few years ago, and they built her the studio in her house so she'd stay on.

Good gal! Hate to see her gone.

Shut Up Little 1! Nobody said she cared about DFW, they said she was a hard worker and cared about her JOB.

The only country station I listen to is 1190.

Is this a sad commentary or what?

nope...1190 is giving you what you cannot get anywhere else.....they just need to lay off the lone Kendalls hit......

Sorry Laffer. I'm not saying that Little 1 was perfectly correct because I'm sure that Amy B "cared about her job." She was being paid to work in a major market without hardly getting out of bed in another state! Who wouldn't CARE about a CUSH situation like that? This is one of the problems that has happened to radio. What happened to a jock actually MEETING their listeners? And I don't mean flying in for a Saturday remote and then going "home" to Arizona. Remember when the jock lived in the same freakin' city the listener did? The jocks are so far removed from personal contact it's not funny anymore. And a lot of blame goes to the pumpkin-headed ego of some jocks who think they're too big to go out and do an appearance. Please....when you're "too big" to go out and make $300-$500 for two hours of your time AND make a listeners' day who came to see you, you're an ass, not an air personality. Now, I'm not knocking Amy B here. I didn't like her act on the air, but many did. The bottom line, if she wants to work here, she should BE here, part of the community. I don't even like pumped-in morning shows, but a MIDDAY slot?! If KSCS let her do the show from her home, they would go against all that "tradition" they're always talking about. Not a good move. Plus, do they really want someone on the air who sounds like Ellie Mae Clampett?

Not knocking Amy either, but she sounded more like Ned Gribble's wife on "King of the Hill" than Elly Mae.

Ok i'll agree with much of what you say but dammit sometimes Little 1 can be really obnoxious just like David Eduardo!!!!
