Hello "Speed Racer". KBIG is now half way to becoming the old "Mighty 690". Too much pitch. This isn't 1978.

What do you mean? Are you referring to the music, audio processing or promotions?

I think he refers to the speed up of the songs to make them sound brighter.

Oh okay. I didn't think of that. But thank you David.

Yes. But 5% now. For an AC? Yikes.

I'm curious how they'd accomplish this without speeding up commercials too -- since music and spots all come out of Prophet. And I'm not even sure if you can do that in Prophet, unless they've updated the software since I've been gone.<P ID="signature">______________

Only if they reporcessed each song...

1. Load song in Cool Edit/Adobe Audition.
2. Under "Edit", select "Select All" (or Ctrl-A)
3. Under "Effects", select "Time/Pitch" > "Stretch"
4. Under "Presets", select "Speed Up"
5. Move sliding bar to the right until you have the desired length.
6. Save file, then enter the new song length in MusicGen.<P ID="signature">______________

From my experience, newer versions of NexGen include the ability to differentiate between songs and spots (spots including pretty much everything other than songs or voicetracks)... I believe you can pitch up each individually of one another.

That being said, I did notice that things were zipping along today- i know it's common for stations to do anywhere from 1-3%, but how much would it take before your average "non-radio ear" picks up on it?

That's right! I didn't think of Audition. And I use that at home, so you'd think it would have occurred to me.<P ID="signature">______________

Are you sure? I am pretty confident Prophet added a similar feature to Scott Studios. I know in Scott if you add a code before the "cart #", that code has a rule. Example: When I worked for Citadel, the D1 code before the CART # was a 1.5% pitch... I believe our D2 was 2%...

So change cart # from 05421 to D105421 in Selector, and that element would be pitched 1.5%...

So as long as you didn't add the code to the spot cart #'s, there would be no issue.

Prophet has a "Set Song Pitch" command that doesn't affect spots. It goes in the clock or log. I think current song pitch is only displayed in Station Status.

Re: What happened to KBIG today-Prophet question?

There are several stations in the CC LA Cluster using the same database.
Would this only effect the songs when they are played on one station?

...but it could be 1989 again if they threw in some old Bon Jovi, Leppard and GnR. Speed 'em up a bit; just don't hack up the songs as much as Pirate did and I'll try and make a trip out there.

If the command is loaded into the log, the change would happen only for the song on the log for that station when it played. Of course, I'm not around there now to check it out.....

But if the processing happens on the song itself, then it would affect the songs for everyone if they're playing that same cart i.d.<P ID="signature">______________

Yes I remember now on Sunday hearing Bobby Brown's "Every Little Step" and it was noticably faster.

================================
Prophet has always had the option that allows you to set the "song pitch". It's as easy as setting up a stop set block. And yes...technology these days has allowed the function to not effect anything other then what is stated "SONG pitch"....so you would not effect any commercials/spots. Also....once you have set the pitch.....it continues on the station you designated it on.....it does not effect the songs on a shared system...it only adjusts the station log and what music is scheduled in it.

KBIG has been sweetening its music by 3%. But on Tuesday afternoon it was bumped up to 5%.
