What is up with indie 1031???

I have never seen there numbers so low granted they have never done great but they have never been this low? Is it a bad rock trend or what??? I love them for anyone that likes the alt format they rock!!!Kroq is alright and have nothing against them but indie is ;D for a true alt format. There are not that many well programmed alternative stations in this country.

Good luck indie whereever the road may lead

OK you may not want to hear this but this is what I see a contributing factor. If you notice KROQ has now had 4 bad monthlies in a row. They are not lighting the world on fire BUT I guarantee you 98.7 is creating some havok in listening habits with both KROQ and INDIE. When PPM comes then true listening will be registered but right now I just can't see a 28 year old male who likes Alternative saying they love Star987 so it's not going to get the credit yet. The people at KROQ didnt just wake up stupid one morning, something is taking the numbers away from them and Indie and I guarantee it's Star. They are just not getting the credit yet.

I have noticed their ratings drop consistantly...now a .3 in the latest trend. The station has been around for 4 years now...way beyond original expectations. I have enjoyed it online from the beginning...this station is by far the best commercial radio station anywhere ever. Hopefully it will be around for years to come, realistically however I know the plug could be pulled at any time.

Perhaps it's because Indie doesn't play any hits. It may be "too hip for the room"

Oh never mind. The station is great for musicians and the fan base is small but very loyal.

Time to bring dance music back to 103.1! There is NO station in L.A. that's playing dance music now. Indie may indeed be too hip for the room...I recall Swedish Egil's Groove Radio rating close to 0.0 before the owner changed it to more mainstream dance. Groove Radio was definitely too hip for the room! A mainstream dance format, like BPM on XM could do some wonders on 103.1 given the fact that NO L.A. station plays dance music. Entravision really screwed up with the KDL format...they were very cheap and not daring enough with the format.

:-*
The last time I listened intensely was when they had the silversun pickups in heavy rotation. Since then, I tend to forget it’s there. Mostly, I have serious signal issues in the Hollywood area. I get bleed over from KIIS. I do try to tune in to Dave Navarro’s show on Sat at 6 mainly because I find his career path from Musician to TV Host to Pornographer an odd one.

I guess if the advertisers are happy the station will stay put, just like all the low rated sports stations on AM.

I do agree that Star has to be dinging KROQ. When all the dust finally settles, I think we are going to have about 9 Jack FMS all vying for an altered niche, and pretty much jockless. It’s a crazy time.

Indie does play a few hits from the alternative format but they are selling a vibe and not numbers for there aren't any lol but i guess they are hitting there target demo and thats all that counts for they would not have lasted 4.3 years with out having some success billing!!! When they came on the air they said it was geared toward 25-49 year olds and jonesy is always doing his car commercials so we shall see. Please indie stay put!!!

i say "move to the groove!!!!!!!!!groove 1031.or even better the legendary mars fm.i allways liked groove!as for dance music, power 106 STILLhas powertools!

For this demo, I suspect there is significant loss to online radio such as pandora.com, last.fm, and others. Being able to self-program your "station" is very compelling for those whose tastes aren't served by the terrestrial offerings.

Were that so, we would see a reduction of tsl and PUR in that demo. We dd not. We would have seen KIIS and KPWR and KSCA and KLVE off. We didn't.

More likely: the novelty of a bigger playlist and more adventerous new music policy was thrilling two years ago, but the thrill has worn off and the station has the defect of a horrible signal sp some are just listening less.

I bet if indie had a good signal or even just marginal it could garner around a 2 and really hurt kroq for in reality there is really nuttin you can put on 103.1 that is gonna garner good numbers. Nuttin.

Indie's #'s mirror the artists they play/played when it comes to record sales. Great tastes for a few (including myself)....not for the masses. One Nickleback album outsells their entire playlist 8 to 1. Sad.

I realize this does not offer anything new. I am just saying.

You got that right. Dating back to the beautiful music years of KSRF on 103.1, no format on that frequency has ever got any kind of decent rating in the overall L.A. book. The signal is just too limited.

Indie is the best thing to happen to L.A. radio in the last 25 years. Los Angeles Magazine named it one of the 64 greatest things about Los Angeles right up there with the beach, Griffith Park, the Farmers Market, Chinese Theater, the Hollywood sign and other landmarks.

the saturday night mix show live with tony largo!mars fm 103.1...ive allways liked there terror techno they had on.bring back mars fm!!!!
;D

I think Indie suffers because there is very little good, catchy new music in their genre right now. It's a pretty limited genre too: new alternative that is intelligent. A few years ago there was Modest Mouse and Franz Ferdinand, but now precious little. I'm a big fan of Indie and even I find myself shrugging lately at the new music they play, and then changing the channel.

KROQ is suffering for the same reason: very little good new music out.

98.7 probably doesn't pull from Indie too much. It's pretty much old KROQ stuff on there, and slanted toward the meathead/fratboy Red Hot Chili Pepper / Linkin Park type crowd.

And of course all radio suffers because people of that age are listening to ipods, web broadcasts, XM, and this that and the other. While Indie's been around that trend has really intensified.

It's still a great station - really the only good station in town other than maybe KUSC for classical fans and KCSN for eclectic tastes. You have to be an active listener, though, rather than a casual guy punching it up in the car.

I sometimes listen to it just so that I don't regret not having listened to it when it eventually vanishes.

PS - As for dance......I think that is really outdated at this point.

thats what i allways liked about mars fm.played everything.i believe mars would do pretty good.and dance music in los angeles, yep it would work.heck powertools has been on since 1992 !voted best radio mix show in the usa for the last 8 years.there is so much dance music out there ,they just half to program it correctly.why do people go to clubs, raves underground partys?for the music..

Dance seems to be gaining some strength recently. I also think a return to dance on 103.1 might be a smart move. Maybe something along the lines of Energy 92.7 San Fran. or Pulse 87 New York. I think the timing might be right. I also think AAA would be another viable choice.

A Return to dance ala Groove from 1998 style would be best. The only things is this company tried it with their failed KDL attempt. It needs to be different from that.
But then again KDL was doing better than Indie.

Where are all the listeners now?? They aint listening to the radio anymore. Grab em back.
