What now for 93.9?

Now that KLU has jumped on the Oldies format, what does that leave for Cumulus' 93.9? Return to Christian the frontrunner?

There's always that 80s/90s niche waiting to be filled...

If Chris Wheat has plans to do a Classic Hits format for women, I doubt he'll be scared off.

After all when he was the GM at Q 95 he remembers a station owner asking him for three
million. If he paid, classic rock would not compete with the Q. He told the station owner to go fly
a kite.

So now Cumulus has Jack 104.5. How about Jill 93.9. Jack and Jill.

The Dutchman may have been trying to be funny. But there really is a JILL FM format.
It's the female version of JACK.
Now can we hear some more about the broadcaster who tried to BLACKMAIL Q95?

Could it possibly be the SAME broadcaster who 'allegedly' used the same THREAT on the Ft Wayne Spanish station owners?

Haven't seen the lawsuit but if I sell Tacos and you sell Tacos can't I negotiate placement of my new business? Seems there may have been an impliedf threat?

Don't know. If anyone has the goods post a link to the Federal Court website.

A friend from LA let me know that they've got both a Jack and a Jill out there. Maybe Indy
will have the pleasure too.

As for the other question, perhaps Radioho will provide more info. The Ho is in the know.

JACK and JILL might be a good idea for a multi-station corporation like Cumulus. This way the sales
staff can sell both male and female 25 through 54 demos.

At least Jack has dropped Cogan's liners. I couldn't bear to hear him tell any Jack and Jill stories.

I'm not sure what they will do with 93.9 after Christmas, but it looks like they will soon get their CP to move to Lawrence and become a B1.
While scanning the dial this evening I noticed that Seymour's 93.7 is silent. Apparently some time this week they pulled the plug.
I can't tell if the Sellersburg 93.9 is on the air yet, but WQKC is no more. The duck has left the pond.

WQKC's transmitter failed Saturday. They don't have time to look at it now & declined my offer to fix it. I can understand it being a low priority. It may be fixed, it may not, but the silence wasn't planned, although I can certainly understand how that assumption would be made. Had I not had inside info, I would have assumed the same.

Whatever 93.9 decides to do, it will be managed well, programmed well, sold well and promoted well. Why? Out of fear of other stations and changes occuring in the market? No! Simply because they're pros and they love radio.

What are the specifics about 93.9's power upgrade to a class B? Will it have a similar range to the other class B's in town? I hope so cause I live in Columbus and we definately need something new and different to listen to down here! PLEASE!

93.9 will not be a full class B (50,000 watts at 500'), it will be a B1 (25,000 watts at 330').
According to the application, they will trade some of the power for antennaheight, they are applying for 6,900 watts from a 480 foot tower.
Since the Seymour station is now silent, they already sound pretty good here in Columbus so when they get their new facilities they sould sound even better. Not quite as strong as the other Indy class B's but better then they do now.
What exactly are you looking for? There are 6 FM's and 1 AM serving Columbus with a variety of music and talk, and nearly all of the Indy stations put a good signal into Columbus so why do you put so much hope in 93.9 for something better to listen to?

Smooth Jazz or Churban? Maybe Spanish Language programming. Why doesn't keith add In Band Off Channel? Then all 12 people with radios and in range of the 1 percent power stations could hear it? Wait, the FCC is allowing locals to do this by waiving 3rd adjacent rules.

My guess......they create a hybrid of wtts/wrzx. They play the well tested Pearl Jam, Creed "older" alternative hits and mix it well w/the proven Johh Mayers of the world. They let 'tts keep playing the really new, untested, not-yet-proven music and re-enforce their position as a Bloomington - (college) radio station. They will grow audience/revenue at the expense of 'rzx/'tts/ntr.

Heard a rumor about Steve Harvey, which of course would mean urban.

Got anything Southport_Road?

Triple A is an exciting format. Wonderful music! But it's hard to sell because the listeners
won't take the time to fill out the book. They won't buy the products from the advertisers
either. They're just too smart! There is a 1.5 or maybe a 2 for this format.
Cumulus is going after men 25-54. Bet they want the women too.

WWFT still needs a construction permit from the FCC to upgrade to 25,00 watts. This should be issued
very soon. Their signal will be quite strong in Brownsburg, Anderson, Franklin, and Greenfied.
