What NOW?

Has anyone else noticed that NOW FM is sounding more like a Hot AC and less like an AC determined to take on B101?? Music is more like a Hot AC and the jingles are new - also more like a Hot AC...is it me or does anyone else hear the same thing? If there has been a switch at NOW, kudos to B101 - as another one bites the dust...

At frist glance, I was under the impression that Now was simulcasting on AM 1340. :D

yup. a shift to hot ac.

when Now first hit, B101 was really upbeat. they were just knocking on the door of hot ac. Now countered by being more mainstream.

after the holiday book, B decided to head back to the mainstream (like a few other ac's have--WJBR for one). Now decided to counter by going hot ac.

so, what NOW? look for Now to stick around another 6-9 months, then drop the format. as long as jerry lee can "buy" the market away from anyone else, B101 will be the only ac in town. greedy media doesn't have the stomach to battle with them. they couldn't do it with Magic so what makes anyone think they can do it now? CCU couldn't do it either with Sunny#2 or Star. dan lerner couldn't do it with Kiss. pyramid, et al, couldn't do it with Sunny#1.

just as no one was able to top the old WDVR way back when. the 101.1 frequency in philly is a juggernaut as long as jerry's there. he could do all-polka-radio and still win the market...

Or dance...

They should have launched with the Hot AC format... it's the hole in Philly. Not to mention Hot AC thrives in PPM and the "Now" name lends itself to a current format. However, they've probably messed it all up by launching as an AC.

The PPM environment may change things, and that can't be discounted. But, where hot ACs have worked well enough in non-PPM markets, how long has the string of hot AC failures in Philly at this point? The original version of Star may have been the last time someone had some measure of success with the format. Not to say Now won't be the one to break the streak, but it makes a certain amount of sense they started off where the audience definitely was--mainstream AC.

You didn't!
Come on, Filly needs a dans stayshun! That's the hole in Philly.

I can't stand B101 or Now 97.5's approach to AC. Or 94.5 WPST's approach to CHR. In the mid days, the music on 94.5 = the music on 97.5
I like either mainstream or soft AC, or a full blown CHR, NOT something that's a mishmosh of both on a station that has traditionally been a mainstream AC or a CHR. I don't like hearing Bryan Adams on PST or Rihanna on B101, that just makes me change the station even though I might like the song (but seeing as those 2 stations are off my presets, I never listen anyway). I don't even mind a station like Mix 106.5 or SoJo 104.9. I like a mainstream AC like 101.9 Lite FM that doesn't play too many songs from this decade, and on the weekends, it doesn't play any songs from the years I've been alive, which I like.
I guess the next time I'll listen to Now 97.5 is Halloween for the Christmas music if it's the same music as last year.
