What should WOR do if O'Reilly packs it in?

The front page of this site reports (through Howard Kurtz of the Washington Post) that Bill O'Reilly is likely to fold his daily radio show in the next few months. That leaves a potential two hour daily hole in WOR's schedule in the early afternoon, where O'Reilly now competes with Limbaugh over on WABC.

It's hard to think of any national show that would do as well as what WOR has now. So wouldn't they be better off launching and developing a new locally originated show that would attract a different audience from Limbaugh's, either with someone who's got a history of good performance in the market (Jay Diamond, maybe?) or a new emerging talent? The cost wouldn't be a hell of a lot more than buying carriage a second tier national host, but the ratings and revenue upside could be substantially more. If you were in WOR's front office what would you do?

Considering the relative success of Gambling, Joan, and Mike C., their best bet just might be to extend local female oriented talk into the afternoon.

Doesn't Dennis Miller air live against O'Reilly's show? WOR can just move Dennis back into the slot, maybe carry all three hours.

A bit OT but here goes:

Anyone know where I can get a recording of DM's fill in spot(s) for Hannity? Those were actually good shows.

Laura Ingrahm? Glenn Beck? Dennis Miller? Famous Amos?

Glenn Beck?

Amazing how he's still not cleared in New York. If WOR didn't clear him then, they won't clear him now. And if WOR ends up signing someone inferior to Beck like a Laura Ingraham, then that tells you all you need to know about Beck's non-future on WOR.

Tammy Bruce would be a logical choice; she is also live at the time.

WOR should throw a farewell party (after Billo leaves).

I don't know... WW1 was paying Bill-O to be on WOR... They might miss those surplus checks...

I think two things will be true in this slot:

1. The personality will be live...I think they learned that delaying O'Reilly was not a great idea.

2. Whoever it is will throw some pretty serious cash at WOR.
