What to do with 93.7

1) Bring back B-94. I know this doesn't usually happen, but Pittsburgh is not your normal market and brand loyalty is high

2) Smooth Jazz. This would help with the loss of any adult leaning urban music and CBS does this format well in other cities. Go heavy on vocals.

3) 70"s -80"s soft AC . Play the music that origionated this format--Bread, Streisand,Kenny, Dolly,Neil, Billy Joel, John Denver, etc. Why? Pittsburgh has possibly the oldest population per capita outside of Florida. Very few major cities still have a standards station. Pittsburgh still does. WDUV is the leader in Tampa with this format. WTVR is the leader in RIchmond and it programs older than WSHH or WLTJ.

4) Let 93.7 simulcast WHKB. ( joking)

5) Put Star on the better signal and soft traditional AC on 100.7

Yes. This gets my vote. ;)

You mean the same as WLTJ and WSHH. Three in the same market? Well, WLTJ is more like a Hot AC anyway...

Neither WSHH nor WLTJ are tradional gold based soft AC's. I think WLTJ leans toward Clssic Hits and WSHH is typically "soft and contemporary". GO to WDUV online and you will hear a huge difference.

You're not going to like what I have to say-

But I think CHR is dead- so those waxing poetic for B-94 might as well be waxing poetic for Harold Arlin.

Please no soft AC. I think it's covered with WSHH nad Kiss already.

Smooth Jazz- possibly- but remember the market is only eight percent black.

Here's my idea- KEEP THE FORMAT! It actually does provide something new in terms of programming and plays songs neither WDVE or The X does.

WRRK was trying to be another WDVE and that's what caused it's demise- especially when they put on Bob and Tom. You can't compare K-Rock to The X.

After all, wasn't WEAE trying to recruit old Howard listeners with Madden's show for awhile?

How about an all-Arlin station? :)

I think that's a mistype. "Kiss" soft? Maybe on braincells but not music. I think you meant Wish and Lite Rock.

Smooth jazz's target is white mothers in their 40s.

I was surprised that smooth jazz didn't last longer on 104.7. I didnt follow the ratings as much back then. If I am not mistaken, it lasted from 1996-1999. Did they do well in the beginning? How about moving Star to 93.7. I think they have a much better signal.

But were they voted #1 once again for listening at work? (Sorry, inside Tampa joke there...)

At least they're not calling themselves "new"...

Except for the absence of the liners, WSHH and WWRM are very similiar. Live all day and Delilah all night. They fill the same market niche except there is no gold based AC to catch the older demos. Tampa radio is a lot like Pittsburgh in some ways. Both have a struggling hot AC at 100.7 that should be doing better , but isn't. Both have a CBS owned heritage country station facing real competition for the first time. Both have a conservative talker on AM that calls itself "news". Both have a CC owned CHR that leans heavily toward CHurban.
Tampa , however has a mini Classic HITS war going on between COX and CBS. I doubt if anybody cares. BOth have Sports Radio . However Tampa non-commercial radio is chock full of religious broadcaster and Pacifica and AM is about half religious and half Spanish. On FM there is one Spanish station and dueling Urbans. But then who really cares except those of us down here awaiting the 2006 hurricane season to silence them all.

What makes everyone think that older people will listen to large quantities of music that they don't particularly like if you simply throw them a bone every now and then by playing an old song or two every hour? And what makes everyone think that older listeners don't enjoy newer songs, as long as the newer songs don't sound like crap?

You make a good point Radio Realist as I have many co workers at work in their late 30's or early 40's that enjoy rap music. I'm 31 and it's amazing how times have changed as my mother never listened to rap music when I was a little kid. Grandparents will probably be listening to 50 cent in about 20 years or so. lol.

Re: You're not going to like what I have to say-

When did Pittsburgh stop having an honest to God "easy listening" station, as in elevator music?

From 1990-1991, Pittsburgh had an Easy Listening station at 104.7 WEZE as Easy 104.7. After that, they went religious for about a little over a year. The station came right after Top 40 Energy 105 was dropped, which I believed lasted for only 8 or 9 months.

So You think if they do that they will get more ratings? I wished 937krock would stay on air cause it's my favorite active rock station but if people listen to dve now. I just don't know how people can listen to dves (BLEEP). But if Bobfm never came on air would the new rrk would have got the ratings like bobfm did i say not?

And i understand i didn't put periods,commas and etc.
