Re NCI's fear of competition from a format like that: Clear Channel is very paranoid about ovelap between their stations musically or demographically (except in the case of WYTS where the objective is a bit different.) "Very" paranoid is actually a marked improvement over a year or two ago, when they were *pathologically* paranoid about overlap. But it's still bad new for Columbus listeners. This is by no means a national CC issue. It's specifically the Columbus management that's dogged by this strategically shallow and flawed mindset.
When you have the luxury of owning almost half the really good FM signals in an under-radioed market, you can make a lot of dumb decisions (admittedly in addition to some good ones), and fall well short of your true potential, but still look like heros to Corporate.
All that aside, I'm not sure how well that format would do here, even though I do like it personally,
