What will Champ do for mornings?

One thing for certain in life and business is "change". Generally speaking, radio people have a really hard time with this. Yet, those in leadership positions that can get a staff behind them to embrace "change" always seem to get ahead both in revenue and ratings AS A TEAM.

Ken?

Do what needs to be done.

Corm? Be a man. RETIRE!

There is no one in Vermont talented enough to bring this station to the level it needs to reach.

STAR should be next.

How would quitting his job and not making money to support his family make him a "man?"

I love how new posters sign up just to talk trash. You've gotta earn it like I have. ;D

Well, one thing I do hope to bring into the building is the slashing of the corporate culture and getting everyone to have fun again. We all got in this business in the first place because we had fun and that has disappeared from so many clusters. Sure, it's a business but like someone said earlier...a hppy group of people makes a radio station even more successful. Also, thanks for the ideas (serious and tongue-in-cheek) for the Champ Morning Show. It'll be fun!

Ken knows what to do. Things will work out. Too bad he can't take back the Barre Stations and make it fun again. That place is a morgue.

Will, you are right. Corm should not retire. He can always get another gig, even if not in radio. He should "do the right thing" and leave Champ. In such a small market, the guy has had a great run but it should end already. Enough is enough.

New blood is needed in that building with out of the box thinking and programming.

For the past several years, if not longer, a salary such as his is simply...unjustifiable ! No return on investment but as long as everyone is "having fun" without the corporate attitudes, I guess it is OK?

We shall see.

By the way, I've worked for corporations and small market owners. The only difference I can tell is that there is a lot less paper work and accountability in the smaller markets. Believe it or not, there are good people (and bad) in every business culture !

First, why does "doing the right thing" (should I put quotes around the quotes?) seem to always entail the person vacating the slot they are in? Couldn't they also "do the right thing" and just improve their performance (as you see fit, of course;)). Or would that just be impossible? Can't teach an old dog new tricks or something like that, right? I suppose it's entirely possible that theory rings true, but it just seems a bit harsh so many just want to see people (other than themselves) hit the highway, at least as unapologetically as is put forth on these posts.

I back Ken 100% on reinstilling the fun back into radio. Seeing it disappear before my very eyes at the very station that inspired me to get into radio by the very same person that started this thread (listening to the Ken and Christie show every morning on the school bus) was what eventually led to my not fighting to stay in anymore. You have quite a challenge ahead of you, though, Ken. I'm sure it will be a lot tougher to regain the fun with the budgets the way they continue to be during these hard economic times. Then again, it might be just the thing to inspire it... you never know. 8)

Finally, why the hell are YOU (friendly advisor) worried about what someone is paying someone else? Geezus man, get a life. It's one thing to say the man is behind the times, it's quite another to tell him he ain't worth the money he's being paid. If it were to be true, (and if I were to care), I'd venture to say that there were quite a few times in his career where he was UNDERPAID, and this is just sweet payback!
