What Will K-Earth's Playlist Look Like in 2040?

Assuming that there isn't a format change and people in LA still listen to FM. Listeners aged between 18 and 54 will be wholly made up of those born between 1986 and 2022. I've noticed big changes over decades and wonder what we can expect to hear on "Classic Hit" Radio in the future. What recent songs will be the likeliest to be playable then?

It will, of course, include Brown Eyed Girl. 😖🤮 Some FCC rule, or obscure Constitutional Amendment.😵‍💫🤪
If it were not for the part about "making love on the green grass behind the stadium" some would consider it an 11th Commandment.

I expect one of the following

1. "About Damn Time" by Lizzo every hour of every day. Katy Perry, Maroon 5, Taylor Swift, Michael Jackson classics, Pink, Rihanna, and a bunch of TikTok artists as sprinkling.

OR
2. It's long-sold to EMF or VCY anyways, and the secular radio scene is about as dead as the Pony Express, Blockbuster, and Crystal Pepsi.

Rock and other non-rhythmic genres will be played only on weekend specialty shows or on noncommercial radio.

There will not be any Michael Jackson on radio in 20 years. By 2040, playing "Rock With You" would be like playing the music of 1962 today: Chubby Checker, Ray Charles, Beach Boys. That's pre British-invasion, music that hasn't been heard on FM radio in 15-20 years.

I would think Taylor Swift and The Weeknd would be a significant part of the mix. Probably Justin Bieber and OneDirection too.

Dog faced pony soldiers have recently made a big comeback!

No one sang about having sex in the old days. It simply wasn't done and certainly not songs about teenagers! "Making love" referred to kissing, hugging and holding hands. This was still true through at least the mid-1960s and "Brown-eyed Girl" was probably a holdover from that. If the conservative movement(which was most of America)had thought for one minute that people were singing about casual sex, especially teens, they would've brought the house down! That never happened.

I'm impressed at the interest in radio on this website. Some may sit here and say you're uninformed, but you're DEFINITELY smarter than the average radio user. Most turn on the tuner, and stay with it if they like it. If it's not what they want -they punch out. Of course these days you can find other ways to hear the songs..but it's not t he same. Will K-Earth 101 be around in 2040? Online? In a chip in your head ?Will the Mt. Wilson antenna farm be bulldozed for apartments ? How many of US will be here in 2040? The Ferris Buehler line "“Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it.” holds true today more than ever. In 1990 our chief engineer told me an entire radio station's music library will be in a box the size of a Rubik's cube. Of course he underestimated what things we'd see in 2023. A MicroSD card can carry all the music, production and text needed to run your favorite station. I was part of K-Earth's transition from Tom Jones and James Taylor, The Beatles and The Pina Colada song to what you hear today. We were heavy into the 80s when the station hit #1 for the first time in a long time. It's been there (or close) since 2014. When people asked -our answer was that we were playing the BEST songs of the from a 20 year window. When the station was big in the 90s, the music was 60s-70s. A 20 year window. The easy part is choosing the window. The TOUGH part is finding the right music. "Hotel California" still plays 4 times a day on K-Earth just like it did when I was scheduling the music. Chris Ebbott and the staff found a winning formula. You may not like it (or maybe you do)- but the plan was to make sure the target audience heard its favorite songs every time they punched up 101.1. Does it work in 2023? Only Nielsen Audio (and your PPM) knows.

KRTH won’t exist in 2040 because all of radio broadcasting will be replaced by internet streaming
Doubt it...Radio is the only reliable way to disseminate information en masse. In the event of a major disaster or calamity, internet and mobile service, and the power grid may be impaired. Many broadcast stations, though have back-up systems in place so that operations can continue and obviously be received on battery operated radios, independent from the grid.

I still think kearth should add more 90's. KOLA is at an all time high with their blend of 80's and 90's playing 2 90's per hour I'm sure would not hurt kearth

There could also be a nuclear war by 2040 that kills 1/2 the Earth within days...
