What would they call 106.7?

Columbus' surplus of alternative rock -- 102.5, 106.7, and to some extent 99.7 -- is even more surprising when you consider that the larger market of Cleveland doesn't have a single alternative.  (I'm not counting CC's dinky translator+HD2 presence there).  And few markets of any size have more than one commercial alternative.  106.7 should really consider changing.  At least 93.3 served a cluster revenue-protecting function when it was being mostly-wasted as a thorn to 94.7.  I doubt 106.7 is accomplishing even *that* much as an alternative.

Cleveland has a new station at 87.7FM "Cleveland's Sound," which is adult album alternative.

AAA, a very different animal from alternative. Would be great to have one here, although it might not have as much commercial potential as other formats that have been suggested. At least it would be more differentiated.

Wow, that Cleveland station reminds me of Cincinnati's late, great 94.9 The Sound, which aired for a little over a year. Very similar playlist as well. I remember when 102.9 in Dayton was Classic Rock, they spun the KWS tune in the Summer of '98. Great tune BTW.

The Sound made it two and a half years, November '06 till May '09. Two years at 94.9 and then the last six months at 97.3, before Bonneville decided to make it an HD-2 station for 94.9. Not sure if it's still there though.

That's right. I couldn't remember quite how long The Sound lasted. The first song on The Sound was Green Day "Welcome To Paradise" for the record. 8)

Just a GUESS and nothing more, but I wouldn't be surprised to find the now "staff-reduced" 93.3 format on 106.7 in the new year with WTVN moving to 93.3. No point in having an FM presence without a good signal for them and 106.7 won't fill that need. Whether 610 would continue to be WTVN am or not is debatable. I could see using it as a sports station and blowing 1230's signal out of the water and allowing Fox Sports to have more of an impact while using 1230 to do exactly what is does now except with other programming.

On the other hand...maybe NOTHING new will happen in 2013...which wouldn't shock me.

That was also my guess with the "staff-reduced" 93.3 format. WTVN-FM will land up on 106.7 FM while "staff-reduced" 93.3 oldies format will end up on 106.7. But like you, this is just a guess!

Maybe ,,, Since every one on the board was all for bringing Jack FM back with its one part time employee, that CC gave us our wish blew out the staff of 93.3 and they are giving us Jack FM after Christmas. the ratings were dropping on oldies the last few month. you never know

I just can't imagine CC moving WTVN to FM or even simulcasting WTVN on 93.3 or 106.7. Just look at WBNS-AM or WMNI-AM. When the same AM programming is available on FM, the AM might as well sign off and save the electricity. CC isn't going to just throw away the best AM signal in town.

I think that after Christmas, 93.3 go back to just what it was, albeit PC with little or no local presence. Sigh.

That's what I'm wagering on as well re 93.3, and I second that loss-of-local sigh.

I like the SHOE..... If it were old style AOR... The SHOE KICKS ASS!

Pure speculation but maybe Evolution 106.7?

A day after Clear Channel flipped Boston's 101.7 to their first terrestrial EDM station, somebody registered "Evolution1067.com".
It's likely not an opportunist squatter or corporate grab-everything move since e..1069.com, 1065, 1063, etc weren't touched.
And granted, there are a lot of 106.7's out there.

Anyways, with CHR's like NCI moving away from turbo pop and dance domination to a more balanced top 40, there certainly is a hole for that format.
EDM has definitely been the new alternative over the past year or so. The only reason I'm skeptical is whether CC wants young male demos. We're talking younger than X1067's already youngish audience.

If CC flips 106.7 to EDM then I take back anything and everything I've ever said bad about them. I listen to the Evolution iHeart app on a daily basis. They got it right for once with the programming and I'd be on cloud 9 if they flip 106.7 to Evolution.

Also as far as the young male demo goes, I'm 38 years old and this is all I listen to.

Evolution is pretty good. It's a great balance of the top house, electro, and dubstep, but also featuring some pop crossovers and breakbeat-era alternative crossovers as "gold" tracks. I think Clear Channel did a decent job "mainstreaming" a format out of something so diverse. Hooray for no early 90s "dance" tracks.

Yea, I'm 30 and I'd listen. I think, we're probably closer to being outliers. I'd guess EDM ranges more 18 - 34, if anything. They could probably get it playing in a lot of workout gyms across the region. It's got a great pace.
