What Would You Do With WRKO?

I was going to chime in earlier, but everyone always get mad at me here and say bad things about me here

Anyways, here are my thoughts

On weekdays, They should have Fox News Radio 9am-Noon ("Brian and The Judge" is on at that time), keep their new host Charlie Manning Noon-3pm, then 3pm-7pm Howie Carr, Keep Michael Savage, 10pm-1am Put on Alan Colmes Fox News Radio, then 1am-6am put on John and Jeff (they are no longer on 96.9=although John and Jeff website states it's still on 96.9, regardless, put that on.

And since WRKO airs some games, on the weekend, put "Sporting News Radio" put that on (almost 24 Hours) example Saturday 1am-6am, then Saturday Noon-4pm, then Saturday 7pm-Sunday Morning 6am, then Sunday Noon-4pm.

that's my thoughts
Why not go urban AC?

Note the figures on http://www.bostonradiowatch.com (Local radio revenue declines 19% in 2009)

Can you guess what station got which revenue?
A) $23.2 million
B) $10.1 million
C) $8.4 million
D) $6 million

All of them are Entercom stations. They rank #2, #10, #12, and #15

The answers---drumroll please
A) The guys still living in their mom's basement with the Roger Clemens '86 poster on the wall.
(WEEI)
B) No DJs--They play everything (WMKK)
C) Howie calls them "The Beavis and Butthead station" (WAAF, WKAF)
D) Howie Radio 680

Yup, Hey Ordwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay! is top dog and got the primo studios (Howie wound up in
the broom closet). Mike did pretty well--low budget operation but good demos. (Now if they'd
only simulcast Sox games--well, they do on the HD3 but it's shaky at work)

Whatever WRKO does the eyes will be on what makes money. Do they keep going with what they
have, or try something different? Urban AC? Pretty good signal exc. MetroWest at night...
Money is the key. They are dead last among the Entercom stations here, money wise. Ratings
so so, depends on what demo

I agree with you @Ned, but we're talking abour WRKO. Last time they were a music station was wayyyyyy back when ???

I guess it would be a good idea
Despite being on the AM dial, WRKO has a good signal throughout Boston Urban Areas as well as this part of Boston Massachusetts

In this case, I'd say put on (Your Fav Station=Citadel Radio Network) Put that on almost 24/7 with some Syndicated Programs on the weekend. Or just put it on 24/7, because that network is pretty well. I listen to it sometimes (The Touch 95.3) from Harrisburg, Pa. I'd do that in that case

Other that that, I'd keep my previous thought with the help of Raccoonradio's help

The current lot of people who are driving WRKO will always, at the bottom line, have an agenda to maintain the status quo You cannot not, nor ever will, make any changes to the radio station if you do not COMPLETELY ELIMINATE the people who have been making decisions about it over the 15 years or so.
Of course your answer has to tinge on the political, which negates you as a source.

Don't know about that. Seems to me that it should virtually qualify me to run a station. Shall I suggest what negates YOU as a source?

..other cities, both larger and smaller than Boston manage to have viable music stations on AM.
For instance...what larger markets manage to have viable music stations on AM.
WHAT, Philadelphia
KFRC, San Francisco
WSBC, Chicago
WGUN, Atlanta
WOMN, New Orleans.

Shall I continue?

Don't continue, because I must do more research. WSBC, Chicago is NOT primarily a music station. It is BROKERED and foreign language.
I lived near there, and worked there, as well as its shared time sisters, WEDC and WCRW for a total of 10 years when I was alot younger.

WSBC features broadcasts in a variety of languages, principally Russian on weekdays, 7 a.m - 10 a.m. and Noon - 6 p.m. Weekends also have broadcasts in Spanish, Greek, Ukrainian and Romanian.

Who are you zoomin?

EEI needs RKO for sports conflicts. Last Sox exhib game, Sat night vs Wash.,on RKO due to 850 carrying Final Four.
If Entercom sold off 680 they would put Sox on 93.7*...but would Ent. ever sell off RKO?\\
*--at least that would have happened as Sox game is pre-season
