Whatever happened to John David Wells?

I know he had been fired from alot of stations (KXNT, KDWN, Oldies) in LV. Did he finally give up and go into real estate like so many other jocks? (Uhg, I could hear those spots "It's a buyers market and I'm JD Wells........)

I think he quit kxnt because they wouldn't let him talk about programming on their FM sister station, and quit kdwn because they cut his hours way back for brokered programming...and he was just a temp on the oldies station...but he can speak for himself if he is still around

Thanks Dirt....Nice of you to step up on my behalf.Yes, I'm still here, and am working on a significant Las Vegas radio project. And for the record: I resigned my position at KXNT because I believe radio should serve the citizens of the community instead of stockholders, and that Jack should only have employees that actually believe his radio ideology. (As if he actually had one...) I resigned at KDWN because Claire Reis reneged on our deal. And I was only filling in for Dan Arthur at KOOL 93.1, while he learned how to become a Soldier in the United States Army. When he came marching home, so did I. Further, as soon as I proved beyond doubt that most of the flaming clods who post here are frightened, sniveling, corporate butt-kissers, who can only spew absurd, nasty, pointless, and poisonous ad hominem attacks....I sought intelligent radio conversation elsewhere. Jon-David Wells Fearless Broadcaster

Thanks for the answer, and sorry to have stirred things up. Sounds to me like sour grapes, but I'm glad to see you're working on a significant project.

I had a nice long conversation with Jon-David Wells last week and I find the man has some great ideas and if allowed to reach fruition you may find yourselves surprised.I was impressed with his passion his candor and his will to win.thanksMike Terry

I think he will be a fill-in on WGST-AM in Atlanta next week for the first four days. The initial choice for filling in on these days "bit the hand that was going to feed him" so another was selected. Sounds like JDW is in good with WGST PD Bloomie.

JDW, I heard you when you were here in Atlanta last year and will be listening next week. Good luck to you.

Bloomie seems intent on destroying WGST with his major program changes and staff changes. The changes are so drastic that I have started listening to music again!

Does that mean he was fired from 1280? This would be his like his 5th in the market. (Oh, I'm sorry, The KXNT PD is an idiot, Clair Reese lied, he was only "filling in" on Cool for 3 months, and everyone else is wrong in Johnny David's made up world)

I honestly think Atlanta would be good for him. They'de chew him up and teach him a real lesson in radio. They're into the Boortz style of talk. and I don't think they like outsiders telling them what they should think.

I think they have to, by law, give a person their job back if they are active reserves...that is what happened with cool....the guy came back from active duty.

..I noticed one of the kxnt radio star winners had to change her views on Iraq, to get her air time back...I don't care what view people have, but when the PD tells someone to change their views to "fit" with the station....it creates hosts that are shallow....

According to WGST's producers, we had great shows, with more calls than Kimmer....Four bitter snots posting in Atlanta do not "listeners" make....

Sorry about the double-dip....But:

In my first 4-day assignment on WGST, I spent 12 hours on the air. We discussed 12 topics, and helped WGST cover breaking news on the North Korean Missile Crisis. We took 84 callers. Since there about 20 minutes per hour of news, and spots, that works out to 8 total hours of Talk Radio programming with 10.4 calls per hour. For a Talk Show Host who's been on the air in Atlanta a total of 6 times since 1989....That doesn't seem to be so bad.

I agree. However, my comment was based on conversations and e-mails with others that are not even aware of this forum. The majority of us have not cared for the present and past Kimmer fill-ins. Our choice was for a fellow that Mr. Bloomquest let go a while back. It is not that these hosts were bad, they were just challenging enough.

We both know that there are many individuals on this forum that are connected to the industry or were and have an axe to grind. As a radio outsider I find many of their comments amusing. Remember, it is just an Internet forum . . . I certainly an glad I do not work in radio!

No problem....I was just a last-minute emergency fill-in.

No one there has any idea about who I am, what I think, or any of it. It takes at least a year to build a show into something a major-market can grasp....If I could have done it in 4 days over a holiday weekend, I'd never even get within 50 miles of this godforsaken board.

Ok, "WhatdoIKnow" it's obvious you don't know a heck of a lot. You carry this huge chip on your shoulder for this guy. Jon-David is probably one of the best out there not being heard enough. Just because a hand full of so called listeners left unfavorable comments regarding his shows in Atlanta doesn't speak for the majority of dedicated listeners out there. His shows in Atlanta were well thought out, discussed, and reacted to by listeners. He had a large number of calls all 4 days, more than the guy he was filling in for. I think what a lot of you have a problem with is that he has a brain and knows how to use it. Heck, his level of intellegence bypasses MOST of the "talent" that is on the radio nationally, never mind locally. The majority of his callers were happy to have him on, happy with the job he was doing, and liked him in general. Your problem is at a personal level that is as plain as day. You may very well hear Jon-David in the upcoming days on the radio in Las Vegas. And, when you do, I'm sure you will have issues then also. But, make no mistake about it. He will not only bring credibility back to this LV talk show market, but even make a listener out of you. Put whatever personal feelings a side and just listen to the guy. Yeah, you may not be in agreement with all that he has to say, but are we all in agreement with each other about everything? I love many of the talk show hosts out there, but I'm not always in agreement with them. So bottom line, Jon-David brings a great deal of itegrity to talk radio!! Ready or not, he's coming back.... so keep listening!!

I, for one (OK, maybe way more than one) look forward to JDW returning to the local airwaves. He truly is one of the good guys and I feel I still owe him one for filling in for me while I was gone. While it was very intimidating to have someone with his talent fill-in for that long, I knew the show was in excellent hands. It's good to hear that he'll be on the air in Vegas once again...

Dan....You owe me nothing, mister. It was an honor to try and fill your combat boots.

God Bless You, Soldier....And damn good jock too!

LOL! You certainly do know how to read a lot into a simple post! You might want to look at what I wrote again!

I do not mean to offend JDW, but having been in radio for sometime now if he is truly "one of the best out there not being heard enough" as you say he is, then maybe he isn’t?

[*EDIT]

Jon-David is great and demands a higher quality of talk radio. Instead of two [**EDIT] jabbering in the morning about how to park your car, backwards or forwards in a space. Jon knows that an issues based talk show will win. There is a big swing coming in Las Vegas radio and you all, don't see it coming. Think about where this market was when you first started and now look at its ranking now then think 5 more years down the road.

Since Jon came on board KDOX he has given the station a 180 degree kick in the ass. Sound, quality and quantity. Gone are the days of Las Vegas radio being laughed at and growing in market size but not in sound or talent.

Scared yet..... you should be. I'll get the usual backlash, but 5 years from now it will be me laughing at a few certain people who said I was wrong.

It wasn't. It was a dash.

JD, It's embarrasing when you praise yourself using another screenname.
