What's cooking at Curtis?

I seriously doubt it's a new signal. If I had to venture a guess, it would be the WWPL/WPLW "Pulse" simulcast or WBBB "Radio 96-1", most likely the former. Another possibility would be an LMA with another area station such as McLatchey's WKIX "Kix 102.9".
I recall when they launched "Pulse 102", that CMG wanted a female-friendly format for their station portfolio. Some sort of contemporary adult format would certainly fit.

If you’re fortunate enough to be chosen, you will join an organization that values its employees, provides them with the tools to win and has an outstanding record of key employee retention.

:p ::) ;D :D

It never ceases to amaze me how brazen & ridiculous H.R. can be with their job descriptions....

I'm just waiting for one to start off by saying

"Here at Utopia Communications we fart golden coins and hand out cash everyday at lunch...."

from what I understand, the "tools to win" would be a Commodore 64 that Don Curtis purchased in 1981 (only because it was a discount-priced display model) and a control board that was in use during the Spanish-American War

Christian contemporary seems like something that could make an impact at least with advertisers, but I would think the ad would call for that kind of experience if that's what the station were going to be.

They blew up 101.1 only to flip the other half to AC a few months later? Really?

I am truly concerned Don is losing his faculties. Maybe it's time to hang it up and pass the torch on.

I think 101.1 is going to stay with La Ley. CMG always talks about how that''s the biggest hispanic station north of Miami. Plus doesn't 101.1 cover more of Raleigh-Durham? I live in Durham and can barely get 96.9.

WZTK does get more of the Triangle, save for the communities in eastern Wake County and Johnston County, while WYMY leaves a lot to be desired west of Cary. I wouldn't think they'd want to lose these communities as they will with a solo La Ley at 101.1. Perhaps their newly-acquired WELS-FM in Kinston will play into this somehow.

Ha Ha!!! that's funny..there is always an element of truth in most things that are funny!!

Oh my gawd. That's just what Don needs; more fires to put out. He can't even control the ones he's already lit! PLEASE someone stop letting Don Curtis play with radio matches! He has truly lost his ever-lovin' mind.

I worked in the CMG Highwoods building for ten years (still do part-time). The equipment is decent to very good. More than good enough to put out good product. WQDR, WBBB, and La Ley are some of the most successful stations in the Carolinas.

I can't speak for the other CMG locations, and AM is challenged everywhere these days. But, the new station/format being discussed will be a success!

Why do WQDR and WBBB have such bad audio quality then? They may be the most successful in the Carolinas but also the worst processed in the Carolinas.

I concur with the posting that Curtis has good equipment. I worked at WQDR back in the late 90's and even then I would call it state of the art. CMG knows what they're doing. I understand Phil Zacary is the man behind the success. I only wish Curtis would add a classic country station to it's platform on the fm side.

I agree Rick..If done correctly(that's another topic) Raleigh and the triangle would support a classic country..Maybe one day..

Classic Country? - WKXU tried it on 101.1, Capital and WCMC tried a healthy dose of it...hmmm? Where's it working?
Contemporary Country stations find that their listeners don't want to hear most of the old stuff.

FYI: for a short time 570AM played Classic Country, programmed by the late Rusty Walker, and I loved it. But, I'm a radio guy who's heard everything else too many times. The format would not be a ratings/revenue winner though, IMHO.

If there was a day to do it....it has passed. And it's long gone in the rear view mirror.

Conway Twitty and Okie from Muskogee doesn't exactly sceam ratings/revenue.....

Guys, I don't mean to be rude, but it's ideas like that which are driving the radio business down.

It's like the guy that used to scream about Good Times Oldies....just doesn't make a whole lot of sense. And you're marketing towards an older audience that isn't spending a lot of money.

Sorry....but it's the turth.

Which means Don will embrace it in 6 months time...or less
