What's going on in Lufkin/Nacogdoches?

I haven't heard or read anything about the Luf/Nac market in a while. Anybody up to speed on who's doing what to whom?

What's the story with KJ103? I know it's dark, and the story behind it, but does anybody know if it will ever be back?

Anybody plugged in at the Gap Group? Anything interesting shaking there?
 
KJCS will be back without a doubt by the first week of December. It is likely it will NOT be KJ-103/country.
The rap battle will end by November.
I haven't head about anything going on at the big G A P.
 
Who will run KJ103?

Will Bill Vance put it back on the air? Or Stephen Yates?

Speaking just for myself, I have more faith in Yates.
 
Definetly NOT Stephen Yates. I would put my trust Bill Vance long before Yates. I know firsthand Yates doesn't do what he says he'll do in a contract.
KJCS back on under Bill Vance? Yes, unless it's sold or leased.
 
Hard to decide which one is the lesser of two evils.

Whatever else you can say about Yates, he is keeping his stations on the air. Isn't he? Vance couldn't do that, or am I missing something?

So let me ask it this way: Which one can be trusted to keep enough money in the payroll account to keep paychecks from bouncing?
 
Bill Vance is a lying, cheating snake in the grass. I wouldn't trust him with a sandbox in the desert. I don't know much about Yates, but the GAP stations in Lufkin are run very well from what I hear.
 
HOLY CRAP! You would trust Stephen Yates OVER Bill Vance. You obviously don't have any idea what the heck you are talking about! I'd have to call it a draw. I've known both of those jackasses all my radio career. 13 years of which were spent working at KYKS, Q107, & KJCS, FOR BILL VANCE...in the Lufkin/Nacogdoches market! I would pay money to see them in a WWE cage match! I have too many examples to share here to describe just how sinister these two men are. They both have done things over the years that would curl your hair. On another note...It'll be nice to see, and hear, the newest sub-standard, mediocre, sad excuse for a radio station Bill will put on the air this time. I'm sure it'll be dandy!

I'd choose Stevie Wonder to read To Kill A Mockingbird before I'd trust Bill Vance to run a radio station. I'd trust Bernie Madoff with my money before I'd trust Bill Vance to run a radio station properly. I'd walk through South Central L.A. with a rebel flag shirt before I'd work for a radio station run by Bill Vance. I'd buy stock in BP before I'd put stock in a radio station run by Bill Vance. I'd re-elect Obama before.... on second thought...

So are you people telling me that an old retired radio guy who's looking for some part time work should stay away from them? Is that what you're trying to say bunkie?

Where did I put that Wal Mart phone number? That greeter job is looking better and better.
 
So what's gonna happen?

KJCS 103 is licensed to Nacogdoches, right? That means if Vance intends to bring it back, it will have to be in Nac or Lufkin, right?

If he's not gonna bring it back, the license has value and he can sell it, right?

Surely someone out there -- other than SYates -- should be interested in buying it.

Right?

Unfortunately, if Vance sells, I fear that SYates may be the only one interested in buying it.

Does anybody have any idea what's going to happen with KJCS?

If I remember the rules correctly, the studios can be anywhere the station puts a signal regardless of community of license. Sadly KJCS is a C2 these days. I guess it downgraded to allow the 103.3 into Dallas or Houston... or both.

The studios can be anywhere the strongest station licensed to the city puts a signal. It can be a radio or TV station. Not sure if anything else licensed to Nacogdoches is stronger than KJCS, though.

It really is sad, since they had a signal that rivaled KYKS. You're right on the Houston part, but Dallas wasn't affected (KESN had already upgraded). The KJCS downgrade was accompanied by three other changes: KXAL (now KDVE) 103.1 Pittsburg got an upgrade (Class C3 to C2), and KBIU 103.7 Lake Charles moved to 103.3 and downgraded (C1 to C2). That cleared the way for KVST Willis to upgrade (C3 to C), changing their COL to La Porte (it's now KHJK). The applications were filed in 2002 and the changes were completed in '05.
 
I remember a Billboard article back in the 80s warning of the "AM-ization" of FM with directional antennas and all kinds of power levels. Turns out they were right.
 
Quite prophetic, to be sure. A great example in your back yard would have to be 104.9, with a signal more like a translator. And how many stations can Corpus Christi support? Or for that matter, Lufkin/Nacodoches?

And Bill Vance does "do what he says he'll do in a contract"? Everything Bill Vance has ever touched has gone under. He's a complete failure at business, especially radio, and in no way what so ever will be able to get KJCS back on by December by himself. If you read the FCC documentation online, he stated that he went silent with KJCS due to financial reasons. This tells me that he personally doesn't have two pennies to rub together and was only using Yates. He's broke, penniless, indigent! I would go on about him being a thief, liar and cheat but that has already been discussed on this board ad nauseum!
 
[OK... I'm new to this.... so bear with me.....
One thing is I know both Vance & Yates..... 1st hand experience with each. Yates is the Better ... but He is a Felon...... No Felon's can Own a Radio Station... that's way his are in his wifes name.
Vance is everything that has been said and a lot more.
A Liar.... A Cheat.... A Insult to Good Broadcaster's.... He sold the downgrade for $500K Plus Dollars and cut the signal back to a C-2... That absolutley Killed KJ's Signal... and Value!! The Radio Staion has been Killed.... You can't bring back a Station after it's been Taken Off the Air... and Back on again... just be be taken off ... The Poor Listeners don't Believe in it anymore. He has a half Dozen Bankruptcy's... Always changing the Corporate Name to stay ahead of the Creditors.... Nobody would accept his Checks... cause they would Bounced! He is ruthless... anybody who would Screw Over their own Mother... the Senior/Majority Partner in KJ ... that says how much he can be Trusted. What a Shame.... A Real HEARTBREAKER.

How have you been G.P.P.P. Mr. W? I hope you and yours have been able to straighten the disaster out that Bill Vance left you with in Nacogdoches. You really are a nice person and it's a shame I didn't get to stay around a little longer and get to know you better.

In my hearts of hearts the right thing will be done, and true justice shall prevail!! Bill Vance has pushed his luck way too far, too many times and is now out of options...!!!!

On a lighter note, I ate Chinese tonight and my fortune was "Confusious say Karma's a Bitch!" I found it to be very fitting with respect to the issues at hand here.
