What's going on in Lufkin/Nacogdoches?

Have you ever seem as much Shit that Bill can leave behind.
He's like a Termite.... Eating away at all the good stuff... leaving
behind.. a Big Gloryfied Mess for this Family to Fix.
I should have taken things into my Hands that Night/Morning he and Gun toot'en Miss Blondie held our Little Eagle Scout @ bay.... Cutting the wires ... F___ing KJ one more time.

I hear this time he may have met his match.... A Federal Cell my be his new home.... After doing a little Outlaw Reading last night... I agree with Mr. Ricks... atleast Stephen has keep his Stations on the Air... and not even he would sell off 100,000 Watts for a few $$$ to reduce a Monster Signal to a Little Beat up Puppy Dog.

Yep. I worked in the shack behind the courthouse. (I had nothing to do with the station's kidnapping, I was hired months afterwards). KJ actually had some potential then... live 24/7 with an aggressive promotion campaign. Brett Vance left and it all fell apart. Never worked for Bill, though I don't hear many good stories.

MRS Ventures is a radio group that was headed by Jerry Russell. They are famous for running heritage stations like KZEY, KMHT, KOTN, KPBQ and so on into the ground until they went off the air. Sadly, I worked for this company too.
 
All these bad words about BV. I guess I'm missing something. So far his 3 stations in Natchitoches are going good and his staff are still working and getting paid.
 
Bill's stations in Natchitoches have no competition, that's why they're doing so well. I programmed the country station, and voice tracked the mornings there for almost a year. The money he was making in Natchitoches helped keep the stations in Nac. open for as long as they were. The only thing that will save KJCS will be BV selling that station, and I'd be surprised if that EVER happens! He's had tons of offers over the years, and hasn't taken any of them.

That's because Brett Vance was the glue that held KJCS together! He treated his employees fairly, always made sure money was in the bank (unlike Bill Vance) and the payroll/ bill's were paid on time. KJ103 was a huge success in the late 90's! Quality airstaff, edgy liners, great music rotation and station positioning. The sales department had one heck of a radio station to sell.

KYKS has been very consistent over the past 20 years or so which has helped secure it's top position. Had Bill Vance not ruined the stellar KJCS reputation, both on air and off, KYKS would not have near the market share it enjoys today.

That's his one... Miss Tattle Tail. Wonder if he'll be Cooking The Books in his Federal Cell... Maybe he will get a Corner with a Window.... and a Pay Phone down the Hall to call for MAMA. Wonder how many Years one gets for destroying a Great Radio Station and countless #'s of Good People's Lives. Boy, what a Wonderfull Broadcaster. The State of Texas is sure lucky to have him.
 
Vance owns stations in Natchitoches?

Which ones? I can't find a station in Natchitoches that's not owned by Baldridge and Dumas, two guys who own half a dozen stations around north Louisiana, including several in Natch.
 
So if Vance is focusing all his time, attention and money on those three Louisiana stations, does that mean KJCS is history? It's been almost nine months since he filed to take 103.3 down. He must go through the FCC to bring it back up, which involves time and money, and that's just to get permission to turn it on again. Then comes the expense of rebuilding the station from scratch, and I don't think Vance has the cash on hand -- or the credit -- or the desire -- to do that.

I'm betting he will fold and sell the license for whatever he can get -- probably to Yates == before the end of the year. And who-in-hell knows what HE will do with it.
 
Rest assured he's got a Angle.... It will be a Lie.... and ofcourse he'l be getting Money from somebodys Hip Pocket National. Wonder why the FCC would let a scandrel like him ever get it back. Maybe we who know his sorry ass should inform the FCC.. to what a crook and a piss poor Broadcaster (so-called Broadcaster) he really is. Really it's just a short time before he'll be going to a Federal Pen. Recond he'll go to Huntsville??? Let's see him talk his way out of being somebodys Screwing Partner... he like's to screw people so much. I think his time as a Radio Station Owner is almost UP!

And what would you tell the FCC? That you and a bunch of others hate Bill Vance? So what. Being unpopular never kept anybody from getting or renewing an FCC license.

My understanding of these things is that Vance will have to prove to the FCC that he has enough cash in the bank to get the station back on the air and keep it operating for a time. Who can say if he can do that? If he doesn't have the money, he would have to bring in some investors, and I don't think he can find anybody in the Luf/Nac area willing to do that, at least not for him.

That's why I think Vance will sell the KJCS license for whatever he can get and concentrate all his energies on his Louisiana stations.

I don't know any of the details of what he did at KJCS in its final years, so I don't know whether he's committed any crimes or not. There are no federal or state investigations of him that I'm aware of.

Judging from the way he ran KJCS into the ground, the only thing we know for certain is that he's only guilty of being completely clueless about how to run a radio station, and that's not a crime. For the sake of his employees in Natchitoches, we can only hope he's doing a better job there than he did in Luf/Nac.
 
I've brought stations back from being silent several times and all it requires is simply filing a notice that the station has resumed operations. However, if you lost your tower site and found a new one, you just file for an STA until you can file an app to be at full power on the new tower after you get back on the air.
There is no need to prove to the FCC that you have money.
In fact, if he wanted to, he could file for an STA to be on the air with only 1,000 watts in Nac and go on the air for a day (on or before 12/6) and then shut it off for another 12 months.
KJCS was billing strong before moving in with Yates. The LMA started just as the economy tanked. Yates billed only a fraction of what Vance billed. After Yates lost it, it was like a startup and when it cost 5 figures to keep a station on the air it was a good decision to shut it down and do the startup thing later after the economy has a chance to recover.
It was a mix of the economy and Yates inability to pay KJ’s bills that drove it into the ground, not Bill.
Billing was good with Vance even though ratings were low. The ratings I would blame more on Robby Lynn and his inability to compete with KYKS.
 
Thanks for setting me straight on that. So bringing a station back on the air isn't as complicated or expensive as I thought.

But -- we still have no idea what Vance is going to do with KJCS.I still think he'll sell it to Yates just to get rid of it.

I know nothing of how or why KJCS ended up going dark, but you seem to know quite a bit about it, so I'm going to pick your brain if you don't mind.

If -- as you say -- KJ was billing strong under Vance before moving in with Yates, why did he turn it over to Yates under that LMA?
