What's happening at live???

Greg Fired, no more No Name Show, Kevin and Bean to be syndicated in the AM, Loveline at midnight, and all DJ's shifts changed....

Is Dave still there? What is he doing?!?

How much longer do you think this station will last?! It's sad...I use to love Live 105.

Thrasher: You posted Woody's guess as a fact. I couldn't find an announcement anywhere after reading your post, but I found Woody's twitter response to someone asking his post about Greg being fired. Here are the tweets in question:

BREAKING NEWS: Greg Gory was FIRED from Live 105. Despite my falling out with the guy, I never like seeing someone lose their job.

My guess is cutbacks. I guess: No Name to 3-7p, Jared to 10a-3p, Madden to 7-midnight. KEVIN AND BEAN syndicate in to mornings

Until anyone makes an announcement, the whole shifting schedules thing is just somebody's GUESS.

Look for Live 105 to flip to a sports station called "The Fan". It happened here in Dallas/Fort Worth and it bloooooows. Seems to be then next "trend" in cBS radio.

Uh....because the San Francisco market needs a 4th sports station? According to the ratings, nobody has proved we need a second sports station yet, and we already have 3.

I could see how KNBR (680) would benefit by moving to FM, but how would CBS benefit from a sports station in this market? They'd probably make more revenue with an automated music format of some kind.

Oooh...I know...let's start the rumor now and see if it spreads - 105.3/KFRC.

Not to knock them, but 1050 really went sports to be a flanker...to suck the air out of the room for sports, so no competing companies would do the format. At this point, it's every company for themselves, but yet another sports station does seem not to be the best use for the freq. It would seem to make more sense for CBS to throw on another music format. There seems to be no shortage of format ideas on this board!

The only possible reason would be to have an outlet for Westwood One NFL broadcasts, which (I think) (but don't really care) are generally carried on KNBR/1050.

Heck, CBS/SF could stick them on 1550 rather than farming them out to Cumulus ... but then again, if Cumulus is paying for the broadcasts, take the positive cashflow and don't complain.

What really surprises me is that ESPN hasn't grabbed a local outlet here. KNBR claims (wrongly) that it's the ESPN station here, but running Fox Sports on the weekends and an occasional ESPN show doesn't really support the brand.

In fact, as I write this, the knbr.com website shows that "Dan Patrick - ESPN Radio" is live on 1050. Apparently the graphics guy didn't get the memo that DP hasn't been on ESPN Radio for nearly two years...

Of course, they're still using three-year-old (at least) voice imaging by Brian James, who died four months ago, featuring that hot new Sacha Baron Cohen character, Da Ali G. (Way to keep it fresh and current, KNBR!)

cBS doesn't really care. We had 2 and they still brought in 1053 The Fan. They got the Cowboys on contract and air the Ranger games as well. Its gonna be quite possible that if cBS has an AM station that they go with an FM sister station to broadcast the games on too. We have KRLD-AM and KRLD-FM.

According to "the ratings"? What if you're selling beer and you want men 25 to 49? Why waste your money on KOIT when you can get a solid male demo? A sports station offers lots of men for less money than a station that is trying to reach a larger male and female audience.

People have to think like advertisers in order to understand why stations pick the formats they do.

The key here is like you said - In your case they got the cowboys & rangers. Local play-by-play. I don't think you'll see the Giants leaving KNBR any time soon, but what about the Sharks, Warriors, A's, Niners, & Raiders? Then again - CBS let the A's go from KFRC/KNCY to KTRB. This is all just speculation, but it does sort of seem like a reasonable fit.

Live 105 is a shadow of what it was in the early days, but it still fills a nice format hole. I too would hate to see it go away.

Same thing for our "Former" Live 105 here in DFW. It's just a memory. 1053 The Fan, blooooows.

Live 105 is the only station that plays current Alternative rock, there's not even a Active rock station in the Bay Area, so I don't see it going anywhere. If CBS was to go to a automated format it would be 105.3 JACK-FM.

Thank you! All of this discussion is all because a random poster repeated a tweet posted by a disgruntled former employee as fact. Has that poster shown his or her face here since causing such a ruckus?

So who started this? Spud?

Probably one of Woody's fanboys since the info came from Woody's twitter. To his credit, Woody said he was guessing. To his fanboy's credit, well, he/she apparently has reading comprehension problems.

There's also Channel 104.9 in San Jose, quite an outstanding station - but the signal isn't that great in SF or the East Bay. I don't see Live 105 going anywhere either. I like the new schedule, since I prefer music between 10 and Midnight, and Loveline seems like a better sleazy overnight show rather than one that is in the prime spot for teenagers to listen to as they go to bed.
