What's Next for WNEW?

it absolutely sickens me that there isnt an all funk station in new york, but it frightens me that there isn't a modern rock station either. i hope rock 102.7 is the future.

Rock wont happen. Funk isnt a format (as much as I love the music myself).There really is no such thing as a "funk" station. Again it is radio it is not your ipod.

Incredible. The "dentist" just deleted ALL the Mix-related threads over on the other board.

No they didn't.

Um, yes they did...all but one, a small thread speculating if WNEW will use the Movin' format. There were a couple of very active threads about WNEW, and they are gone completely, according to a post by the "dentist" himself (also since deleted...he even deletes his own posts!)

Anyone who has not figured out that the Dentist is borderline insane and always has an agenda is not really living in the realm that we like to call reality. So one should not be shocked at the selective editing of his board given these facts.

Not shocked at all...I've been posting/reading there for four years. But noteworthy, nontheless. One mercury filling too many today, perhaps?

Check out the Mix Website....if you click on the HD Radio logo, you will get a logo for Fresh102.7! It's also on the contact Mix page...

Most of the stuff Sniffen deleted had to do with the ongoing discussion about the nuances of dance music and speculation as to how a "well programmed" dance music station will pull in a 10 share. ::)

Geez,
"Blink?" "Fresh?"

Who's the Perky CBS exec who keeps coming up this garbage?
I know it's been said here already, but it's ike they keep on making the same tired mistake over and over and over again. If they're going to keep repackaging the same old failure of a format, they should just sell the frequency and call it day.

I clicked on the link that says "Coming Soon... Fresh New Country 102.7". That web page is not made by CBS, but it's kind of a prank. If you want to hear what "Mix 102.7" would sounded like since late December 2003 into early 2004, I got this link here:

http://www.mix97fm.com

This is what this format would work in New York City. It's a more "lighter-than-lite" music station. It plays much of the best music from the 70's, 80's, 90's and even today. No dance stuff there. This is what "Mix 97.7" is all about. It's owned by Cumulus, not CBS, it's a different owner.

Last night, my mother listened to that station and it sounded much different than what "Mix 97.7" is all about, 102.7 plays uptempo music like Gloria Gaynor, Madonna, George Benson and so many others. Not the ones you hear on "Mix 97.7" in the Hudson Valley. WRNQ and WCTW in the Hudson Valley as "Lite-FM" on 92.1 and 98.5 plays classic dance every Saturday night from 7 PM to 1 AM. It is hosted by Rick Knight (from WBPM "Cool 92.9") and Claire Channel and it is entitled "Studio 92" and "Studio 98". That's right, the same old dance music like the ones you hear on "Mix 102.7" plays every Saturday night on these two "Lite-FM's". Rick hosted that show Saturday afternoons on WBPM playing oldies from the 50's, 60's and 70's. But what is he going to do after that, going to another station and hosted his show with him & Claire playing dance music from the 70's and early 80's every Saturday night. This Saturday night show on "Lite-FM" in the Hudson Valley is a much better show than "Mix 102.7" does all the time.

I hope if WNEW is smart with the format change, first I want to see Rick Martini go. But all of the airstaff is being gone since the last week and I hear Randy Davis on last night when my mom was listening to on the way out. Randy was at WCBS-FM at the time before the format flip. I remember when Joe McCoy was let go from CBS-FM back in 2004, they brought in Dave Logan. He was the last PD on board right up until the format flip to "Jack" last year. I want to see WNEW adjusted back to a more lighter-than-lite music like way "Mix 102.7" sounded back in early 2004 before Frankie Blue (formerly of WKTU) took over. This would sound a lot like "Mix 97.7" in the Hudson Valley does now. WNEW is not going to be a rhythmic AC format, if it does, why not call it "Movin' 102.7". This format is Alan Burns idea. Or maybe you can call something different.

Stay tuned!!!

I must say, first, WNEW is presently Rhythmic AC, and with a suspected format change, I think we all foresee something different than the current Classic Hits/Dance. Movin' would be direct competition to KTU again and that would just be stupid again. As for "Movin" as a name and having a station pre-imaged as such for you might be Alan's idea and it's definitely his trademarked brainchild, but the idea of a Rhythmic A/C station mixing adult friendly rhythmic and dance of yesterday and today is not... Mix 102.7 as a Rhythmic A/C existed long before Mr Burn's even developed and released his Movin' format earlier this year.

Mix 102.7 didn't sound like Mix 97.7. These stations were programmed differently.

And Mix 97.7 does play upbeat songs from Gloria Gaynor, Madonna, etc.

::)

It'll be lite ac but an actual traditional lite ac. WLTW is not a lite ac, they image themselves that way but they are actualy a lot hipper and more rythmic than any lite ac. So my guess is WNEW will be an honest to God Dr's office, AC station; Think "Lady in Red" and "we've got tonight", Delialah music.

God, can't wait

::)

Well I would say 102.7 WNEW won't become Movin. As www.movin1027.com is not owned by CBS Radio and that website is up for sale by the person who owns it. And as for www.1027movin.com and www.1027movinfm.com both sites are not owned by anyone so if CBS Radio were to make WNEW into Movin 102.7 I think they would of brought one of these sites.

I don't think they would do this. But maybe they are going Classic Hits but keeping the name Mix 102.7. This as the slogan on their website is Mix 102.7 New York's Classic Hits.

Why would they go Classic Hits when their co-owned Jack station overlaps greatly with most classic hits formats already?

I don't think looking at website registrations is also the most accurate way to predict radio format changes, but that's just me.
