Haha..It's funny that I just so happen to tune into 106.1 and "I'll Be Missing You" just started to play :p
How is that funny, and like I said, that's the only song they know that's "old"? take a look at this station, http://www.967kissfm.com/iplaylist/playlist.html
Is "I'll Be Missing You" the only song they know now? Think Again! Haha, this rascal tried to play smart on me.

Re: What's up with 106.1 KISS FM (KHKS)

You may have opened that door, to an extent.

Kiss is usually #1, not only 6+ but in key demos. And any observation that Kiss should be more like Now is moot by virtue of Now being a flanker for Kiss in the first place.

That said, Kiss in Austin, and Z in NYC, are also owned by the same company as Kiss and Now in Dallas, and since the iHeartRadio platform is being pushed anyway....no one's feelings will generally be hurt by the comment that you'd rather listen to those first two stations (Kiss/Austin and Z/NYC).

(Yeah, Fat Lard and Punk may have been unnecessary...)

I might sleep well with the words I have said as of Today.

That's not a top 40 song. Hell that was popular back when *I* was in the KHKS demographic!

LOL i'm just saying that KHKS should at least play "Clumsy" by Fergie, now that's a Top 40 song...that they barely play.

You said KHKS should play "Clumsy." I said it's not Top 40 anymore.

What does KDMX have to do with anything?

Who cares if they play new top 40 or old top 40 or a mix!! what they are doing is working and getting the station the numbers they need!!! 106.1 is playing what its listeners want to hear and the numbers they are pulling tell the story... why try to be like some station in NY or Austin for that matter

Cause they are better and you know it! :p

Re: What's up with 106.1 KISS FM (KHKS)

I was always taught that a station should have a distinctive sound exclusively tailored to their market. It seems KISS is going this and has the ratings to prove it and the cashflow to keep it rolling on. Everyone has an opinion but, trust me, no one person sets the rules for radio. In fact, I'd venture to say there are no rules for radio although one idea might work at one station and not another. Whatever KISS 106 is doing is working and keeping them at the top of the heap, a much more difficult thing to do than reaching the top of the heap in the first place.

I guess you could say that.

Re: What's up with 106.1 KISS FM (KHKS)

It's by design that Kiss in Dallas doesn't play the songs you want hear. You should be listening to 102.9, at least part of the day. That's what Clear Channel wants you to do. 106.1 and 102.9 are a tandem...a 1-2 punch. They're not competing with each other, they're designed tocompliment each other. With those 2 stations, Clear Channel owns Top 40 in D/FW, the same way they own the entire rock market with 92.5, 97.1, and 102.1. Meanwhile, across town CBS also has a three station tandem with overlaping target demos, as well, with 98.7, 100.3, and 103.7.

It's okay if you prefer KIIS and KHFI over KHKS. But you have to understand that KHKS has an entirely different set of circumstances than LA or Austin, mainly because of 102.9.

Given that KIIG has KBIG, how is the KHKS situation "an entirely different set of circumstances"?

Re: What's up with 106.1 KISS FM (KHKS)

That was intended as a broad "each market and cluster is unique" statement. Probaly should've left "LA" out of the statement. The KIIS/KBIG combo is very similar...and working quite well. However, Clear Channel in LA also has Mainstream and Rythmic AC, which is different from Dallas, and might (or might not) be a factor.

Austin truly is a different set of circumstances.

Re: What's up with 106.1 KISS FM (KHKS)

Eh no wonder why.
