What's up with CBS-FM's internet stream?

Fixed. We had a DA that was dying. It's been swaped. Let me know how you are hearin' us!

Sounds better now and back to normal as it was before this issue, and thanks for fixing it. But what is a DA?

I listen on my winampplayer via AOL Radio. The only issue what I have at the moment is that I can't see the stream info in my player, station name and title of the artist and song.

A DA is an amplifier that accepts one input and creates (in most cases) 4-8 outputs. It can be used to send one source to multiple machines.

I don't know what happens with the volume of the CBS FM stream but it sounds a bit to soft now. I must turn the volume button of my speakers.

Something screws up when the audio passes through the PPM encoder for the internet stream. That's yet one more thing that's being worked on. At a normal level, the encoder would cause the audio to "clip" and distort. Turning down the input gain kind of minimizes the problem, but ... well you see what happens.

Better to have low audio than distorted audio, I always say. You can always turn up the volume on the player, the computer's soundcard, or the speakers if the sound is too low....

It's like untangling a mop of hair. :p

Yes but this is not good. All the other CBS streams sounds good and perfect on the right level. Not to hard not to soft. But K-Rock's streams crackles sometimes.
Why is this PPM encoder screws the audio, isn't it strange? I thought this thing is only to see how many listeners are on and has nothing to do with the audio processing?

We pump WCBS-FM all day long at our hotel here in Tucson. It always sounds great. It was actually a relief when they played what sounded like strictly local stuff during the July 4th week when they had the incredible A-Z week.
Keep up the great work WCBS. Everyone at our hotel in Tucson loves ya!

Been doin' a LOT of streaming lately - sounds GREAT here!! Bravo! Bravo!! :) :) :-*

I think we finally have it! Would like input on what you guys think.

Congrats! I rarely use the Internet stream, but I just pulled it up, and it sounds pretty darn good. It's always great to have one of those "a-ha" moments when you realize everything you've been working on suddenly falls into place, and right now it seems like it certainly has for you guys.

It's amazing how much goes on behind the scenes that the average listener knows little about - from the Internet and over-the-air processing to the newer technologies like HD Radio and RDS. It's nice to know someone is working on everything who really cares what the final product is (and even more impressive - someone who asks for opinions of others). Two thumbs up!

Sounds better now. But it still sounds softer than the other CBS stations, for example the 101.1 HD2 stream and K-Rock.
