As an old fogie who was around during alt's early & mid 80's period, "Melt with You" was a very common song on alternative playlists. Alt was dominated in the early 80's by new wave & synthesizer type bands. Modern English, Missing Persons, Thompson Twins, Human League, & even more mainstream acts like Men at Work & Culture Club were all staples at the format. A lot of new wave stuff like this has became much more mainstream "80's hits" in retrospect, but in the actual time period, many weren't as successful as you would assume on the pop charts. It was the alt stations & alt leaning AOR's that broke these new wave bands & records. Go listen to KROQ's HD2 "Roq of the 80s" channel or SiriusXM's "First Wave", & you'll hear lots of songs similar to "Melt with You". This was the sound of the format in that time period. And now that the pendulum in alt radio is swinging back away from hard, active rock, to a more indie & electronic sound, these types of new wave gold records fit very well.
