Whazzap with this WZEZ crap?

Perhaps I am grossly misinformed, but WHY exactly does WZEZ need to construct a new tower? All the site says is that they can't compete against other radio stations at their current Powhatan Co. site...and why does this current tower site kill them?

I dunno...please explain somebody!?!?<P ID="signature">______________

My guess would be that they want to get a better signal into Richmond, if at all possible.

First off...good to hear from you again Greg. I hope all is well on your end.

My only question is why they chose this particular site? Unless they can upgrade to a 6kW class A, they would actually *lose* coverage of Richmond and the West End, but increase it in Goochland, Fluvana, and Louisa Cos...not REAL big money makers compared to Western Henrico...

Like I said, if they are significantly increasing tower wattage to go as a true class A, then it makes sense...

Likewise Mr. X! Always a pleasure. All is good here, thanks for asking.

Good question. From what I gather, I don't think governing powers that be in Goochland County (or maybe the FCC) is giving them too many options as far as locating a transmitter site. I'm sure that WZEZ's biggest problem signal-wise is the fact that they're on 100.5, same as WXMM(I think that's the call letter, but I'm referring to the former WCMS) in Tidewater, with WARV being too close at 100.3 for them to move any closer to Richmond or increase their power. They might have a chance to go directional and/or move further west to get more power and possibly re-licensing to Louisa, or some PO closer to Charlottesville or somewhere closer to an area with more advertising dollars. The only problem I can see there would be protecting WQPO/Harrisonburg at 100.7. The only other alternative possibly I can think of for WZEZ would be to become a non-comm.

As they are now, they probably can't increase power and the fact that there's not enough advertising dollars in Goochland to supports a radio station (Oh boy, do I know how THAT kind of situation is!). Personally, other than the slight chance of the possibilities I mentioned above, at 100.5, I think WZEZ is pretty much stuck between a rock and a hard place!

Perhaps WNRN might want to purchase them? It would give them a much better signal into Richmond than their 103.1 pea-shooter.

There are multiple stations I know of that could move to C'ville and cover it decently. I think a full class A on 100.5 could be around in the Palmyra area with no spacing issues. Also, I think WXJK in Farmville could move as close as 8 miles away from C'Ville city limits with a class A on 101.3. I also wonder if 105.5 in Louisa could move to 105.7 with a tower west of C'ville and perhaps make WZEZ a Louisa COL...

One rainy day, I'll bust open my spacing charts and play armchair engineer.

> > I don't think that WNRN has the money to buy that stick. And I happen to know that they are very happy with thier translator they have now. With regards to WZEZ,they're trying to do a Local Goochland Station, and that would be fine if Goochland was out in the middle of nowhere, but the fact is that they ARE in battle with the Richmond stations, like it or not, they are.I think this a fact that they know is true but do not want to accept. But it seems now that "reality is starting to bite".Predictions: Goochland will not allow the new tower,(uh guys, remember when 990 tried this a few years ago,it didn't work then and it won't work now)And they just won't "sign off and go dark",they'll either take it total paid religion, with automated christian music as filler,or simulcast it with Current AM Gospel sister station WGGM.My advice:LMA it to one of the Big Boys.OR.sell it.Likely candidates who would be right on the front step with an offer,Davidson,Salem,or Radio One.
