To put it in perspective (and I don't feel like this is my decrepit age-addled mind playing tricks on me), I believe Rick Dees' firing from WMPS, and George Klein's resignation from WHBQ, occured within the same week. WHBQ was between morning men at the time, Bob McLain having just left for (was it Philly or Sacramento?). Being the lowly weekend swing guy, I was filling in mornings until Bob's replacement was named. Those two events occured while I was doing the morning shift. Wisely, one of John Long's first moves was to bring in Bob Landree, freeing up Stu Robb to move to mornings until Mr. Dees could come aboard. I think I still got to do middays for a while during the transition. And easily the biggest cume I ever had in my life had to be when I did the overnight shift leading into Rick Dees first day at the Q. I even got to cart up some of his drop ins!
