WHBQ pics

Isn't the "Don Somebody" in the Q production studio pic "Your nutty buddy" Don Roberts? IIRC he did monrings for a while at WLVS?

How ironic in reviewing those articles that their writer, Larry Williams, just died a say or so ago. he was the radio/TV guy for the CA for years...

That is a cool page! I loved the Dees story, "a 45 day non compete"... ::)

Those were the good old days!!!

To put it in perspective (and I don't feel like this is my decrepit age-addled mind playing tricks on me), I believe Rick Dees' firing from WMPS, and George Klein's resignation from WHBQ, occured within the same week. WHBQ was between morning men at the time, Bob McLain having just left for (was it Philly or Sacramento?). Being the lowly weekend swing guy, I was filling in mornings until Bob's replacement was named. Those two events occured while I was doing the morning shift. Wisely, one of John Long's first moves was to bring in Bob Landree, freeing up Stu Robb to move to mornings until Mr. Dees could come aboard. I think I still got to do middays for a while during the transition. And easily the biggest cume I ever had in my life had to be when I did the overnight shift leading into Rick Dees first day at the Q. I even got to cart up some of his drop ins!

Could it be the Don Roberts who worked at WODZ 680am...sister station of WRVR?

I think that's right. I seem to remember him on 680 at one point. Can't remember if I was still there or not. I was there for at least part of the oldies thing on 680.

Don Roberts appeared briefly at V-95 around 1993 or 1994 when I was OM there.

He was on the air under a slot of time brokered by Charles Bolton.

Seeing the articles about Dees's firing and his move to WHBQ made me think: What happened to John Rhea, the guy who fired Dees? I'm not so sure I'd want to have his reputation after that.
