WHCY-FM Max 106.3 Blairstown, NJ

has anyone listened to WHCY-FM Max 106.3 in Blairstown, NJ they have this sattelite ABC Today's Best Hits. Personally I think it sucks. What do you think? Do you wish it would stay this way or go back to Max 106.3 like they were in 2002-2004. I personally think they should just simulcast Z-100 in NYC and be done with it. That'd be so much easier. 102.7 Kiss FM KIIS-FM in LA does it on 105.5 FM in CA.

i dont know much about max 1063, but from the little i heard in bethlehem in the morning, their morning show is funny, especially the phone taps.

Phone Taps, I assume that means that Max 106.3 has Elvis piped in from WHTZ in Newerk, NJ... WIOQ has them on too.

106.3 as WFMV & WHCY is a station no one ever knew what to do with. Top 40, Oldies, Country, Hot AC.

At one time co-owned with WCRV-1580...they never could find their marketing niche. It's tough being licensed to the metropolis of Blairstown.

I think they did their best when they competed as a Stroudsburg, Pa. station in the years that WVPO am/fm was virtually unlistenable Once the Cerny family took over they turned 93.5 into a real radio station and that was the end of that.

Under Nassau & Clear Channel they made an attempt at Country & being a Sussex County station. Apparently wrong on both parts.

It's gotta be a LOT easier to sell WSUS with shares from 13 to 17 than WHCY with a 3 or 4 share at best

What 1580 in Blairstown?

Actually.....WCRV-1580 was licensed to Washington , NJ (in Warren County). Even when they were co-owned they maintained separate facilities. For many years WFMV was housed in a former railroad station in Blairstown and the building still exists...some contractor is in there now.

Back in WCRV's heydey...the mid to late 60's...they sounded pretty decent....they were sort of the farm station for WEEX. Folks like Jay Edwards & Rod Wolfe worked there at one time. "Uncle Bob" of Q-100 "fame" was working PM Drive @ WCRV. And prominent consultant Walt Sabo actually jocked there...I heard the aircheck!

Anyway WCRV eventually dumped WFMV and kept on the air through the late 80's when they went dark. I believe that allocation was deleted by the FCC due to the fact they were a daytimer

I worked at both WCRV-Washington and WFMV Blairstown back in the early-mid '70's. Nick DiRienzo was the owner, and Chuck Bettyeman was the PD of the FM. And yes, we sort of were a farm team for WEEX. Another notable who worked there was Rod Fritz, of Fox Newsradio and Boston fame these days. I managed to go FROM WEEX to WCRV (part-time at WEEX to Full time at WCRV, and then on to WAEB and some other places.

One summer afternoon, there was an "incident". The Washigton station was in a bungalow house on Rt 31 north of town. The offices were on the upper part of the split level, and the studios on the ground floor. The transmitters were in the basement, right under the bathroom.

I had a 30-min news block at 5pm, during which time, the jock would leave the studio and go for a break, usually including a bathroom break. The commode in the bathroom had a faulty valve, and oftentimes the water would not shut off. No problem....unless the works got stopped up. Well, that's what happened....and the toilet ran and overflowed for a half hour.... right above the transmitters.

I finished the newscast....and smelled ozone. I opened the basement door....and heard the sound of water cascading over the transmitters, which sparked and burst into flames as I went to check out the situation. (We won't mention just "what" was also floating down the stairs from the stopped-up commode.) I hit the *OFF* switch, grabbed a fire extinguisher, and put the fire out.

Since there was a lot of smoke, the fire company came and took me and another staffer to the hospital to get checked out. A few puffs of oxygen, and I was fine. Two weeks later, the boss dropped an envelope on my desk with a, "This is for you." It was the bill from the hospital! I put out his fire, and he expected me to pay for my treatment! Ahhhhhh....small market radio!
