Did anyone notice 93 Rock has expanded their playlist. I heard 311, beastie boys, cyprus hill, motley crue, and aerosmith today, if only they would add U2 and REM they would have a full rock playlist. It is sounding much better. i guess the foul ratings had some effect on their old repetitive playlist.

yea they have the worst ratings in Miami a measley 1.7 share of the Miami/Ft.Lauderdale area. they right next to WMGE mega 949...

Party 931 did waaay better then 93 rock , they never went below a 2.0 and i think they went out with a 2.0- 2.5

THANKS for the tip. They are one of my presets in my car, but I hardly ever listen to them. Every once in a while when I press their button they are usually playing an obscure rock song that I'm not aware of. As a TOP 40 fanatic (past and present) I enjoy the occasional rock (even hard rock) song, but I don't like to hear nothing but rock. I'm also in search of the popular rock songs of today because I'm surely not getting them on Y-100. At home I only listen to '20 On 20' on XM to get all of the rest of the hit music that Y-100 does not play - mostly the rock songs such as current hits by Blue October, Shinedown, Hinder, K.T. Tunstall, AFI, Nickelback, and Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I'll have to check-in with '93-ROCK' to see if I hear any of those current rock hits.

i think 'nickelback' is a good reason why WHDR's ratings are so low.. face it..rock-n-roll isn't 'it' anymore. i think all the popularity of rock just went country.

Active / Modern / Alternative Rock stations all across the nation are wildly successful. Granted many of them are in the smaller-market stations of the heartland and away from the major urban areas, but rock is still 'it' in a large majority of the country. It's certainly not 'it' aqui en el Sur de Florida. Neither is Country.

This station is AWFUL, everytime I put it on I hear either Guns-N-Roses or Metallica. Too bad it isn't 1991... Obviously with some of the adds mentioned they're trying to be more like 103.1 the Buzz. Good luck doing that guys, others have tried before and failed miserably.

93 rock is still the lowest rated Miami based FM station. They havent budged from the 1.7 they had last time. As of todays ratings release they still at a 1.7 on8/28/06 at http://www.insideradio.com/goout.asp?u=http://www.******************. One the other hand mega 949 has gone up to a 2.5 they have risen... must be all that dance music their playing now....

The bottom line is that Cox thought they could slide 93 Rock to easily (and cheaply) fill the void left by Zeta. But as was the case with Zeta, when radio is done half-assed, it is condemned to failure.

Especially when you're doing such with a format that doesn't necessarily play very strongly in the market in which you're attempting it.

I remember when South Florida had WSHE, Zeta 4, and other smaller progressive rock stations
In recent years the area's radio has become unlistenable.
You folks that are trying to bring back " Party 93" should be ashamed of yourselves.
Be happy with the 50 stations that you have, and please don't undermine South Florida's ONLY rock station.
Sure, they can improve and expand the playlist but think before you speak

How about reviving WTMI? Better ratings than either Party or Rock.

Nah something like that would make too much sense.

I know the arguements the demos are too old. Let's face it South Florida has a lot of retired folks. Give them something to listen to.

Not only old folks like classical music.

Even though I also liked oldies, country, MOR, and jazz stations
that have come and gone, WTMI was my favorite station since
I was in college.

Agreed, I was just responding to the expected arguements.

Lots of people who are really into music enjoy Classical. Carole King commented once that she and other songwriters often listened to classical music to get ideas for the pop songs they wrote.

The truth is Cox probably couldn't make enough money with the Classical format to pay the overinflated price they paid for the station.

WTMI was unique. You always knew even with your eyes closed when you were tuned to 93.1 now it's just another station. It also made South Florida unique because the area supported a commercial Classical Music station while other metros threw in the towel long ago.

Dallas still has a Commercial Classical Station WRR owned by the City of Dallas. I wonder how it does in the ratings.

And Woody Tanger is probably still laughing all the way to the bank.
They made him an offer he couldn't refuse.

AFAIK, he still owns a few new England stations and beethoven.com.
Including classical WTMI-AM.

WRR is a TOP 20 station in Dallas. In fact it was # 20 in the recent Summer trend.

Longtime heritage WGMS-FM has been a wildly successful commercial (Bonneville) classical music station up in the Washington D.C. area non-stop for the past 55 years ! For a long time it had been a TOP 3 or TOP 5 station in the extremely competitive D.C. radio market, but it recently slipped a bit due to its frequency change earlier this year from a single powerful signal to two weaker fringe signals originating from opposite sides of the area. Despite the weaker coverage and poor reception in areas it's still just outside the TOP 10 !

THE MAJOR HAS RETURNED FROM NORTH PHILLY !

Rock stations in South Florida have been in steady decline since the time when WSHE went alternative in 1995. WZZR used to be a fine album-rock/alt station too. Too bad this format isn't much appreciated in Miami.
I remember when WZTA went from "classic rock" to "just good rock'n'roll" and then they picked up SHE's format until CC bought them and changed their format to hard alt rock, alienating all (former WSHE) and ZTA's loyal listeners.

I just saw a nice glossy expensive (well-done) commercial for '93-ROCK' during a local WSVN-7 advert spot on 'FOX NFL Sunday' this afternoon just after 12:15 PM.

The commercial gave me 3 reasons to love '93-ROCK'.

1. 52 minutes of rock every hour.

2. More of the older rock that I love.

3. More of the newer rock that I love.

Here are my responses (that you expect from me):

1. Music stations that play 52 minutes of (any type of) music per hour tend to have no deejays and-or no personality. They are literally jukeboxes. It's good if you like that type of delivery. Some do. Some don't. I have mixed feelings on this. Sometimes it works out pretty good. Sometimes it's a total failure.

2. I'm pretty sure that they don't play the older rock that I love such as (in no particular order) - Bon Jovi, Def Leppard, Mötley Crüe, Poison, Warrant, White Lion, Great White, Skid Row, Faith No More, Nelson, Cheap Trick, Damn Yankees, Firehouse, Kix, Winger, and Cinderella. If I'm wrong about this then would someone please let me know ?

3. I'm pretty sure that they don't play the newer rock that I love such as anything on 91.7-THE-CALL.

Major Rantz? Does that mean it's Monkey Time? Uh uh uh uh uh uh.

Back when HDR's predecessor played much more music than POW and heavily
promoted that, didn't that mean they just couldn't sell the time?

Could it be that's still true?

I suppose so. I don't have access to sales and billing data for '93-ROCK', but if I had to make a logical assumption I would say that a station that doesn't air as many commercials as any other station in the same market probably has a hard time selling spots on that station. There's a reason why 'POWER-96' and 'Y-100' air 15 to 20 commercials in a typical hour. It's because advertisers love them.
